Pelosi: Impeachment Is Moving Forward

Trump will never resign.

Trump certainly does have the non-Nixonian complication... state based crimes. They pardoned Nixon. They can only pardon Trump so much. A Trump outside the White House is vulnerable to state incarceration.

Speaking on Sunday’s edition of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” to host Brian Stelter, former Trump Organization vice president Barbara Res said that she believes the president will ultimately resign from his post rather than get impeached, similar to what happened with former President Richard Nixon.

Whether that happens or not, according to Rachel Maddow last night Trump has made at least a couple tweets insinuating that VP Pence might be as guilty as he is, and should be investigated too. And that it might be a tactic to make the Republicans worry that they both might be vulnerable to impeachment, and therefore Pelosi would become POTUS.

Heh! Wouldn't that be a kick! Won't happen though. Impeachment is not a speedy process.

Teabaggin' Trey Gowdy named outside counsel for Trump. Presumably, as a lawyer, his role will be to lie his fucking ass off on TV about how all of this is a massive conspiracy... I mean the scandal to look into is the 2016 election influence attempt by the Democrats via the FBI investigation that never really got out into the public because President Obama let Sen. McConnell make that choice.

Had the Steele Dossier not been released after the election, who knows how many more votes Trump would have got?!

Gowdy is experienced at making mountains out of molehills. Now he can do the reverse.

On last night's Lala Ingraham show Joe diGenova said impeachment is "regicide".

regicide.JPG

It's like they're not even hiding it anymore.

JOE DIGENOVA, FORMER U.S. ATTORNEY: Well, what you're seeing is regicide. This is regicide by another name, fake impeachment. The Democrats in the House want to destroy the president. They don't want to preserve the republic. There's nothing honorable about what is happening. This is a despicable abusive constitutional power. If they had on the floor a vote to establish an impeachment inquiry, that would give the Republicans subpoena power. But the Democrats aren't doing that. They want to deny them subpoena power. So, what do we get? We get, first one, anonymous informant, then a second anonymous informant, I refuse to call them whistleblowers. These two nonentities are suicide bombers that the Democrats have unleashed on the democratic process. They actually think that the American people are going to accept having people testify secretly without anyone knowing who they are, where they worked, what their party affiliation was, who they conspired with. It's pretty obvious that this first suicide bomber who sent that complaint to the inspector general was a paid Democratic operative of the Democratic Party.

What’s truly despicable about this mafia argument is that the purpose behind it is to expose the patriots (I also refuse to use the term “whistleblower”) so that they can be flooded with death threats—real and fevered—and intimidated into not testifying. There is zero need and zero requirement for anyone to cross examine these people now.

As a former US Attorney, he absolutely knows this and is therefore complicit in the ongoing and overt attempts to intimidate witnesses.

They should all be fucking lined up against a wall and shot.

A new poll released Wednesday by Fox News shows that just more than half of all registered voters support President Trump's impeachment and removal from office.

Those surveyed said 51% to 43% that Trump should be impeached and removed from office. Four percent said he should be impeached but not removed from office, and 40% said he should not be impeached at all.
...

Giggle, snicker, guffaw! This is progressing nicely.

Support for impeachment jumped after Rep. Pelosi gave the go-ahead.

Lewandowski slams Dems at rowdy anti-impeachment rally, claims AOC and Tlaib 'run' party | Fox News
Speaking into a megaphone to a crowd of boisterous Trump supporters gathered in New Hampshire’s largest city, Lewandowski declared: “The message is you can’t impeach and overturn the election results of 63 million people who wanted to send change to Washington, D.C. because you don’t like the way he delivers the message.”
As though elections are absolute. His party tried to overturn the election of Bill Clinton, and the birthers wanted to overturn the election of Barack Obama.
He also argued that “the far left wing of the Democratic Party, with AOC and Rashida Tlaib, they now run the Democratic Party. When Nancy Pelosi’s the moderate, that should scare the hell of out of the people of New Hampshire.” This was a reference to freshman Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Tlaib, D-Mich.

Meanwhile, Pelosi's hypocrisy is there for all who have eyes to see.

It is!!!??? OH MY GOD! NOT HYPOCRISY. And you say it is there for all who have eyes to see!?? :eeka:

Oh right - it's a female in power so she has to be wrong because she doesn't spew right wing BS.
I was expecting a quote to be pulled out from Obama Admin times when she stated it was time to leave Syria. The article doesn't go even close to that, in fact, it just throws a right-wing tantrum.

Pam Geller has never been the most coherent right wing points maker. ;)

An interesting panel discussion on the impeachment proceedings at the Brookings Institution aired on C-SPAN this past weekend. I was really impressed with Susan Hennessey's comments. Here's a good assessment by her of what constitutes effective impeachment charges. It starts at about 23:07 on the video. (Sorry for the all-caps on the auto-transcription.)
At 23:07 in the video -

... WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT ACTUALLY MIGHT FALL WITH IN THOSE ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT, WE ARE SEEING A HUGE TREND RIGHT NOW OF PEOPLE MOVING FORWARD ON THIS NARROW UKRAINE CALL ALL THE WAY TO PEOPLE SAYING YOU SHOULD INCLUDE FAMILY SEPARATION EVERYTHING WE HAVE SEEN THE PRESIDENT DO. WHATEVER WE THINK ABOUT WHAT SHOULD BE IN THE CODES OF IMPEACHMENT, THINK ABOUT TWO THINGS. YOU WANT UNAMBIGUOUSLY IMPEACHABLE CONDUCT AND YOU WANT UNAMBIGUOUSLY STRONG HABITS.

WE HAVE SOME AREAS IN WHICH THERE IS VERY STRONG EVIDENCE BUT IT'S NOT CLEAR IT'S IMPEACHABLE CONDUCT. EVIDENCE OF WRONGDOING. THE STORMY DANIELS PAYMENTS, PRE-PRESIDENTIAL CONDUCT THAT IMPLICATES CAMPAIGN-FINANCE LAW. WE HAVE A CLEAR EVIDENTIARY RECORD BUT THE QUESTION OF WHETHER PRE-PRESIDENTIAL CONDUCT WOULD FALL WITHIN THAT STARTS TO BECOME MORE DIFFICULT. THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE'S VIOLATION, VERY SERIOUS QUESTIONS, SOME OPEN QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION, CONGRESS IS NOT YET TAKEN STEPS TO MAKE THE LAWS. GENUINE POLICY DIFFERENCES, EVEN THINGS WE MIGHT FIND PERSONALLY ABHORRENT LIKE FAMILY SEPARATION WHICH IS A POLICY DISAGREEMENT, YOU DON'T GET TO IMPEACH FOR THAT. THERE IS A DIFFERENT CATEGORY WHICH IS UNSATISFYING TO LEAVE THAT ON THE TABLE.

THERE'S ANOTHER CATEGORY OF PLAINLY IMPEACHABLE CONDUCT IN WHICH THE EVIDENCE IS NOT QUITE STRONG ENOUGH. TO PRESIDENT REPORTEDLY HAS OFFERED PEOPLE PARDONS IN EXCHANGE FOR VIOLATING THE LAW IN THE CONTEXT OF BORDER SECURITY. UNAMBIGUOUSLY IMPEACHABLE CONDUCT, THE RECORD IS MURKY, MAYBE HE WAS KIDDING OR MAYBE HE DIDN'T SAY IT.

WE HAVE TO ASK OURSELVES, PUTTING THAT STUFF ASIDE, WHAT ARE WE LEFT WITH? WE THINK ABOUT ON THEM VIGOROUSLY IMPEACHABLE AND STRONG EVIDENCE. THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS A LOT. [LAUGHTER]

THE FIRST ONE IS OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. THIS IS THE BIG QUESTION THAT REMAINS AFTER THE MUELLER REPORT. NOT EVERY EPISODE OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE IS RESTRUNG BUT THERE ARE TWO OR THREE THAT ARE UNAMBIGUOUSLY -- THE STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS -- WE WOULD EXPECT TO SEE THE PRESIDENT POTENTIALLY IMPEACH FOR THAT.

ABUSE OF FOREIGN POLICY POWERS ARE USING FOREIGN POLICY POWERS FOR PERSONAL GAIN, THAT'S AN ABUSE. INVITING FOREIGN INTERFERENCE IN AMERICAN ELECTIONS IS AN ABUSE. THE VIOLATION OF THE OATH OF OFFICE OR TARGETING POLITICAL OPPONENTS FOR INVESTIGATIONS, NOT JUST IN A FOREIGN CONTEXT BUT ALSO THINGS LIKE DIRECTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO INVESTIGATE HILLARY CLINTON'S EMAILS. THAT IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE USE OF U.S. LAW ENFORCEMENT. OBSTRUCTION OF CONGRESS, THE REFUSAL TO REPLY TO SUBPOENAS, THE FRIVOLOUS ASSERTIONS OF PRIVILEGE OVER PEOPLE LIKE COREY LEWANDOWSKI COMETH THAT IS OBSTRUCTING CONGRESS AND ITS FUNCTION. LAST CATEGORY IS LIES TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC. THIS IS SOMETHING WE SAW IN THE DRAFT ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT FOR RICHARD NIXON AND AGAINST BILL CLINTON AS WELL, LYING TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC IS NOT A CRIME. IT IS IMPEACHABLE CONDUCT AND IT DOES ERODE BASIC DEMOCRATIC ACCOUNTABILITY. THERE IS A VERY LONG, VERY STRONG RECORD THAT SUPPORTS IMPEACHMENT.

Yes, they should concentrate on obstruction and Ukraine related issues, which are the strongest and probably quickest to finalize. I would also like one for failure to cooperate with the investigations and maybe one for "conduct unbecoming." Emoluments should be there, but investigation would take too long.

Trump warns GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell about disloyal Republicans - CNNPolitics
In private, Trump is increasingly leaning on the Republican leader in the Senate. In a return to the President's panicked behavior during the height of the Mueller investigation, Trump is calling McConnell as often as three times a day, according to a person familiar with the conversations.

...
Trump has already demonstrated his willingness to go after Republican defectors. After Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said it was "wrong and appalling" for Trump to suggest Ukraine and China investigate Joe Biden, Trump unloaded, calling Romney a "pompous ass" and suggesting Romney himself be impeached.

Trump has also been mistrustful of Republicans who are reticent to defend him publicly, often lamenting that Democrats are much better at staying in line with their party heads than his own.
It's as if tRump considers himself an elected absolute monarch.

That's pretty interesting. We might get our first taste of how Trump is going to react to being removed from office, whether by impeachment or by losing the 2020 election.

article said:
Friday’s ruling in favor of the House Oversight Committee could mark the start of a national reckoning if the president were to defy the subpoena after losing all his appeals, said William Howell, a professor of American politics at the University of Chicago.

I don't know the exact technical definition of "national reckoning" and it doesn't sound real good, but I think it's a'comin'.

The latest from Real Clear Politics is that 52% of Americans want Trump impeached and removed. Another month of all of this crap and I suspect that we will see that rise steadily. The rank obstructionism of Trump and his advisers is not playing well.

I am about all popcorned out. I need some nachos and cheese dip.
