Pelosi: Impeachment Is Moving Forward

A portion of the globe have lost their collective minds. Brexit, the rise of the far-right in Europe, the French Presidential race between a business nobody and a far-right zealot.

In the US we have this latest poll.

There are two results to look at, one a bit comical, the other rather scary.
A majority of Republicans say Trump is better than Lincoln. This is the comical part, though it does help lift the cloak off of the right-wing a bit. I remember a guy on a right-wing radio program talking about his new book on John Wilkes Booth... and pretty much presenting him in a positive light. So it isn't shocking that they view Trump favorably over Lincoln, because they are fucking idiots. Yes, I know, we aren't supposed to call fucking idiots "fucking idiots" because it doesn't help the dialogue... but seeing that they are fucking idiots... there is no dialogue to be had to begin with!

On to the scary part.
The Economist/YouGov poll found that 87 percent of those in the GOP either somewhat or strongly approve of the job he’s doing as president.
And here we get to what is very scary. Trump has had three primary accomplishments.
1) Negated a bunch of regulations created by Obama, mainly late in his Administration
2) Stuffing the Federal courts with very young and aggressively conservative justices
3) Passed a mammoth corporate tax cut

While these are things that would make the right-wing happy, Trump has also:

1) Trade tariffs (and/or war) with major trade partners and/or allies
2) Exited from TPP
3) Chummed up with North Korean Despot and shat on the CIA while talking alongside Putin
4) Weakened US alliances with Western allies
5) The whole Syria/Turkey thing that makes Obama's "red line" bluff seem less important

These are things that are far from being right-wing or conservative positions. And while there is the occasional bluster from the GOP on the above, it is generally fleeting, much like when Trump abandoned the Kurds in Syria for apparently no gain to American foreign policy. That he has such support from the right-wing despite his generally non-right wing position and his support seems largely drawn from his nationalistic positions and the joy his supporters get from Trump telling people off... and with Fox News being supplanted by OANN because Fox News just ain't pro-Trump enough... just seems to show the right-wing in the US are fucking out of their mind.

That Lincoln/Trump poll pretty much shows how GOPers are all emotion, don't think and are uninformed.

Einstein said it best when asked why he emigrated. He said, "because my country has gone mad." And someone who has "gone mad" thinks they are perfectly fine, and that others are the crazies. Of course Einstein was a left-wing intellectual so what weight does his opinion carry.

Looking at those polls makes me think that the movie, "Idiocracy" was prophetic. It appears as if we have reached Idiocracy.

Idiocracy is a 2006 American science fiction comedy film directed by Mike Judge and starring Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, and Dax Shepard.

The film tells the story of Joe Bauers (Wilson), an American soldier who takes part in a classified military human hibernation experiment, only to accidentally awaken 500 years later in a dystopian society where mankind has embraced anti-intellectualism and commercialism has run rampant, and which is devoid of intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, and coherent notions of justice and human rights.

Some of us were saying this since W, but I've always objected to the part where the film shows the idiots as just friendly dumb people, when reality would be a very different picture of nasty hateful idiots. And here we are.

The Peter Principle has been around since 1969 and still seems as operational as ever, if not more so. Combine that with the current proliferation of nasty hateful idiots, and this is whatcha git.

What about the Monday Night Rehabilitaion games? Get enough friendly dumb people in an arena and they turn into really nasty tards. Sunday picnics turned into lynchings.

I forgot about that part. lol. Well, it's a fictional movie, so it doesn't reflect the reality that those idiots in power would have gotten there through very similar circumstances to the Monday Night Rehabilitation games. Ignorance plus fear/hate mongering plus us vs. them framework, etc.

While the Senate, where the GOP have a majority, won't vote to impeach Trump. So it seems there's a deadlock, right?

Not really. It's a win for Putin and a loss for the United States of America.
The best that can be hoped for is that a bunch of those congresscritters who are parroting Putin's talking points and bizarre conspiracy "theories" might be taken out in 2020 in the aftermath of an impeachment trial that lays bare their treachery and mendacity. Trump himself is a non-consequential moron serving as a useful fool for Russian interests, as he has quite obviously been instructed to do. Unless the SCOTUS is totally perverted to the totalitarian rule of foreign interests, a second term for trump will be an inevitable disaster for him and the so-called party he represents. When his taxes are found to reflect massive debt to Russian oligarchs there will be an "aha" moment for the public, and the end of the line for whatever remaining elected Republicans are still pretending not to see what's going on.

Right now it is quite surreal to see those elected grown men mouthing words placed in their mouths by Vladimir Putin, denying the findings of all 16 American intelligence agencies in favor of Putin's fantasy. They have abdicated their sworn duty and joined with the enemy to destroy this country and its alliances. They should be shot. This is hundreds of times worse than anything the Nixon gang ever did.

Please " explain." Where were these American Intelligence agencies when Obama shipped 150 billion in cash on a pallet in the middle of the night to the terrorist regime in Iran ?

Well the intelligence agencies have no assets in dreamland, which is where the pallet of cash was.

No American president has ever negotiated with a terrorist regime.................until Obama that is.

It was Iran's money. We just gave it back after the nuclear deal that Trump destroyed.

The terrorists that attacked us were Saudis. Why is Trump selling weapons to those terrorists? Why is Trump buddy buddy with so many despots?

And, why are you and I posting this shit in a thread about impeachment.

For someone who claims to be well read, you sure do easily get played for being a sucker.

Obama Didn’t Give Iran ‘150 Billion in Cash’

And as for the 1.7 billion in cash on a pallet (which is slightly less than the 150 billion you claimed originally BTW)

The payout of about $1.8 billion is a separate matter. That dates to the 1970s, when Iran paid the U.S. $400 million for military equipment that was never delivered because the government was overthrown and diplomatic relations ruptured.

That left people, businesses and governments in each country indebted to partners in the other, and these complex claims took decades to sort out in tribunals and arbitration. For its part, Iran paid settlements of more than $2.5 billion to U.S. citizens and businesses.

The day after the nuclear deal was implemented, the U.S. and Iran announced they had settled the claim over the 1970s military equipment order, with the U.S. agreeing to pay the $400 million principal along with about $1.3 billion in interest. The $400 million was paid in cash and flown to Tehran on a cargo plane, which gave rise to Trump’s dramatic accounts of money stuffed in barrels or boxes and delivered in the dead of night. The arrangement provided for the interest to be paid later, not crammed into containers.

And as for "the US has never negotiated with a terrorist regime", you need to google search two words; "Iran" and "Contra". It happened a little before Obama's time, if I remember correctly.

It was Iran's money.
$1.7 billionish... not $150 billion.
We just gave it back after the nuclear deal that Trump destroyed.
Correct, money we froze back in the 1970s!

And, why are you and I posting this shit in a thread about impeachment.
angelo has become a right-wing meme generator. Just be glad he hasn't mentioned Thunberg... yet.

Michael Gerhardt said:
Just to really underscore this, the third article of impeachment approved by the House Judiciary Committee against President Nixon charged him with misconduct because he failed to comply with four legislative subpoenas. Here it is — far more than four that this President has failed to comply with and he's ordered the executive branch as well not to cooperate with Congress.
This is one of the Constitutional Lawyers testimony today.

Trump has been tugging at the Constitution, defying separation of powers and tradition. The Trump Admin has defied nearly countless subpoenas. He claims innocence, but the people and the record that could "demonstrate" such innocence is being withheld. Almost every claim by Trump on the Ukraine call has been debunked and despite the House GOP members doing their best to muddy the waters by continuing to propagate the BS, the people with the power to provide the House the power to exonerate or provide the case for 'conviction' are being illegally held from testifying or providing documentation.

In a real trial, the defendant has a right to not self-incriminate themselves. However, if a warrant is provided, they do not have the right to withhold access to evidence. It seems ridiculous that the House would need to impeach Trump on obstruction, as the President should clearly lack the power of withholding evidence.

What I find most striking about today's hearing is the weakness of the Republican witness' constitutional argument.
To my untrained ear it sounded much more like a constitutional wish-list than an argument.
Not to go too far into Bill Clinton territory, but when we are talking about the constitution, we know what "is" is.
The constitution is what it is, it is not what Jonathan Turley thinks would be better.

My money is on this guy simply ignoring corrections and repeating the lie that favors his personal degree of derangement. To accept it was a fabrication.. a half-truth... a falsehood designed to deceive readers, is to accept they have been duped and are a fool. Only an honest rationalist / skeptic is capable of such a feat... meta-cognician.
some people want to feel right, or feel a part of their local tribe, more than to actually know things that are real.

Yuge amounts... of money.

But you have to give him credit for his ability to retain and regurgitate Trump's lies.
I can only recall about a hundred of them at a time - angelo seems to have all 14,000+ committed to memory.
I wish he'd stop showing me up by constantly repeating them to demonstrate his superior retention. ;)
