Police Misconduct Catch All Thread

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/casey-goodson-jason-meade-columbus-police-shooting/2020/12/24/6e92401a-446e-11eb-975c-d17b8815a66d_story.html

Officers at the scene were not equipped with body cameras. Meade’s attorney has said previously that Goodson, who had a concealed carry permit, waved a gun at police. His family has rejected any narrative suggesting the 23-year-old posed a threat to Meade’s life.

Meade, a 17-year police veteran who served in the Iraq War with a Marine Reserve unit that suffered extensive casualties, killed Goodson while on assignment with U.S. marshals after they attempted unsuccessfully to execute an unrelated warrant. He remains on paid leave while federal, state and local investigations into the incident continue.

So, once again, this idiot law enforcement agent/Baptist minister shoots a man who was mistaken for someone else. The claim that the victim was "waving a gun" isn't supported by evidence since the police weren't wearing body cameras. This has got to stop. After reading what the shooter said, it's appalling that such ignorant, nasty people are working in law enforcement. This was a man who literally preached that his job was to hunt people down and "hit" them. I assume that meant shoot them or harm them is some way. WTF!

It appears as if this unfit cop might have been influenced by his military service in a very negative way. It's time to demilitarize the police. At least that would be a good place to start making changes.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned. I haven't kept up with all of the posts in this thread.

I keep seeing this brought up now time and again on Reddit and elsewhere: if you are a cop, your testimony should be worth less than the gum on my boot without corroboration from a body camera.

And if they want to be big babies over how then they can't use bathrooms there's always diapers, and that seems to work well enough for donnie

Video: Cop holds police dog down, punches it in face

The incident was recorded by Roberto Palomino, who was on his way to work in Vacaville on Monday when he witnessed the incident, according to Fox 40.

Palomino said it caught his attention because he could hear the dog crying.

“As I looked over, I see an officer punching over and over a dog,” he told Fox 40, adding that it was “disturbing” to witness.

The video is only a few seconds long and shows the Vacaville Police Department officer holding down the dog, who is still, and landing a punch on its face.
...

When speaking with Fox 40, VPD Captain Matt Lydon defended the officer’s actions, claiming the video doesn’t provide the full context.

He said the incident occurred during a training exercise, in which the K-9 was learning how to find narcotics. When the officer took away a toy the dog was rewarded with, the dog allegedly became violent.

The K-9 then “lunged at the officer and attempted to bite the officer,” Lydon added.

He claimed that for public safety reasons, it’s important for officers to establish dominance over their dogs in response to such behavior.

Beating a dog is not the proper way to establish proper dominance. That officer and the captain are ignorant animal abusers.

Abusive men are attracted to police work, and police departments tend to select for high aggression and low intelligence, so it's not surprising that 40% of cops are domestic abusers. But "stress of the job" is usually the story told about why that is. How about select for grownups instead of dumb baboons?

The dog was probably a young black male.

WATCH: Cop With 3 Previous Kills, Executes Unarmed Man On His Knees With Hands Up

Modesto, CA — The Free Thought Project has reported on countless killer cops before, many of them with several notches in their belts for killing the citizens they are sworn to protect. However, Modesto police officer Joseph Lamantia, a 12-year veteran of the force, has shot five people, killing four of them. His most recent victim was Trevor Seever, 29, who Lamantia shot in the back on December 29.

Seever was unarmed and posed no threat when Lamantia killed him. He was on his knees and had his hands in the air.

According to police, Lamantia responded to a 911 call about Seever, who was alleged to have made “vague threats” against his family. Seever’s sister, Allison Seever said she called 911 after her brother said he sent a text saying he bought a gun and said “that he’s walking over here and just to watch what happens to us,” according to a video report of the incident released by the Modesto Police Department this week.

When police released the call, the Seever family said police edited out the part of the call where they told police that Seever was likely bluffing and would never own a gun. Allison was clear to tell police that Trevor was not a threat and that they wanted “help” for him. However, this was absent from the edited call publicly released by police.

You can't tell anything from that video.

You can't tell anything from that video.

You can clearly see he was on his knees with his hands in the air when the officer pumped another three shots into him.

A teen with autism died after Louisiana deputies sat on him for 9 minutes, parents' lawsuit says

(CNN)The parents of a 16-year-old with severe autism who died last year are suing the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, sheriff, claiming the teen's death was caused by deputies who restrained and sat on him for 9 minutes.

"Never did we ever think that our 16-year-old son with special needs would die in front of our eyes at his age and in the hands of law enforcement," Donna Lou, the mother of the teen, Eric Parsa, said Thursday in a news conference.

"Unfortunately it is our reality of a nightmare that we have had to live with every day since his untimely death," Lou said.

The family's lawsuit comes as police use of force has come under increased scrutiny, particularly against children with special needs. Donna Lou and Eric's father, Daren Parsa, are the latest parents in recent months to announce a lawsuit against law enforcement officers who, family members say, responded inappropriately and used excessive force against their children in the middle of a mental episode.

Deputies responded in January 2020 to a shopping center in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, as Eric experienced a "meltdown" related to his autism, according to the lawsuit and the family's attorneys.

They handcuffed Eric, shackled his feet and restrained him face down on the pavement of the shopping center's parking lot, putting immense pressure on his back, according to the lawsuit, which calls the use of force "excessive" and "unreasonable."

Over the course of 9 minutes and 6 seconds, deputies failed to put Eric in a "recovery position" after subduing him that would have prevented the teenager from suffocating, the lawsuit says.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) said the lawsuit contained false and "malicious accusations" against the deputies.
"This case centers on a severely autistic teenager diagnosed with numerous other mental conditions which caused him to have frequent violent outbursts," the statement said, noting Eric attacked and bit his father.

"Once deputies arrived, they tried to control the violent teenager's outbursts to prevent him from again attacking his parents and first responders," the statement said. "Deputies allowed the teenager's mother constant access to remain close to her son on the scene so that she could help first responders in defusing her son's violent behavior."

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office classified the manner of death as an accident but said a contributing factor was the "prone positioning" Eric was in while restrained by deputies, according to the lawsuit.

So they accidentally killed him so it's all a-okay.

9 Houston officers charged, including 1 with murder, in probe of deadly 2019 raid

A Texas grand jury indicted a Houston police officer Monday on a murder charge and indicted eight other current and former officers in what authorities described as a long-term scheme to steal overtime money that was discovered after an investigation of a deadly 2019 raid.

Officer Felipe Gallegos was indicted on a charge of murder in the Jan. 28, 2019, killing of Dennis Tuttle, 59, after members of a Houston Police Department narcotics squad carried out a drug raid at his home, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg told reporters.

Tuttle's wife, Rhogena Nicholas, 58, and their dog were also killed in a shootout with authorities.

The other officers indicted Monday face first- and second-degree charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, theft by a public servant and tampering with governmental records. They are Oscar Pardo, Cedell Lovings, Nadeem Ashraf, Clemente Reyna, Thomas Wood, Frank Medina, Griff Maxwell and Hodgie Armstrong, Ogg said.

Several of the officers were previously charged in the botched raid. Another officer, Gerald Goines, was charged last year with two counts of murder in the case. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $150,000 bail. Goines' partner was also arrested at the time.

Three of the officers indicted Monday are retired, Ogg's office said. The status of one officer is unclear, and the rest are still employed by the police department, Ogg's office said.

All should be charged with two counts of murder under color of authority.

WATCH: Body camera footage of RPD officer using irritant on 9-year-old girl

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Rochester Police Department released body camera footage on Sunday of an officer using an irritant on a 9-year-old girl during a family trouble call Friday afternoon.

Upon arrival, officers say they were approached by a custodial parent of a minor to inform the officer that her child was going to cause self-harm to herself and others. The police were able to apprehend the minor without incident, but the minor became agitated when she saw her parent. Police say the minor pulled away and kicked at officers, which required an officer to take the minor down to the ground.

For the minor's safety and at the request of the parent, the minor was put in handcuffs and detained in the backseat of a patrol car to await medical personnel. While the minor was detained, police say she refused to listen to multiple commands by officers to put her feet inside the patrol car. This required an officer to use an irritant on the minor.

The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later released.

WTF is wrong with those cops?

If you don't listen to the police they will either arrest or kill you (depending on whether they feel their life is at risk). Their job is not to be guidance consolers or therapists. This video is exactly why people are saying to defund the police and route the funds to send the appropriate personnel for these sort of calls. Instead of paying the police force (as we know it today) to respond they can have officers that are trained specifically for domestics issues like these which would be a branch of the police force. They will be armed as well however their job is not to arrest but to bring the situation to a calm and offer service available by the local government. If escalation is needed they call in the arresting branch of the police force. We already have parking enforcement, Fish and game, Transit and railroad & Air marshals all trained for a specific task; why not for this shit for fucks sake!?

Yeah, I agree with the fix. :)

Edit: And for the tancious ones, obviously for this call both domestic police and arresting police would be on scene. One for the stabbing and the other for the child. And don't try to say it's a waste of resources when damn there the whole police department shows up for traffic stops in my hood.

Cori Bush Wants Answers on Treatment of BLM Protesters, Trump Rioters - Rolling Stone - “We couldn’t scale a wall to try to get in — we would have been shot down off of that wall.”
As a leader in the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in St. Louis after the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, Cori Bush was used to showing up at protests and seeing police, often fully deck out in riot gear, already waiting for them. Those memories came back to her as she watched videos of rioters, including one toting a Confederate flag, break into the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. “We knew at any moment we would be maced, pepper sprayed, tear gassed, rubber bullets would start flying,” Bush says. “But that’s not what happened that day.”

A newly-elected congresswoman representing St. Louis in the House of Representatives, Bush is now demanding answers from the Department of Justice about the “disparate treatment” of black protesters who demonstrated in defense of black lives this past summer, and the “white supremacist insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol Building” in January.

“We wouldn’t be able to scale the wall,” Bush tells Rolling Stone. “We couldn’t scale a wall to try to get in — we would have been shot down off of that wall.” In a letter addressed to Inspector General Michael Horowitz, Bush is asking the Department of Justice to release information that would illustrate the differences in treatment. She’s asking for any changes to Department of Justice policies, procedures, guidance about arrest and charging decisions for individuals involved in either demonstrations this summer or at the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Bush is also seeking information about how many people have faced federal charges for participating in Black Lives Matter protests since 2014, and whether they were held without bail.

...
”I refuse to validate false equivalencies between an insurrectionist white supremacist attack on our nation’s capital and the movement to dismantle the systems of oppression that have been killing black people for centuries — we’re talking about life or death,” Bush says. “The insurrection at the Capitol, at its core, was a violent attempt to stop the counting of millions of black and brown and indigenous votes — those are the votes they didn’t want counted… This was an attack to oppress black and brown people, to discredit our democracy. This was an attack — and we have to call it exactly what it was.”
Trump's lawyers have responded to the House impeachment managers' video with a video of their own, showing Democratic leaders supposedly cheering on rioters and harassers. Yet it's clear which side gets arrested more, and it isn't the right wing.
