Pro-Lifer says, "Let them die if it costs me money"

Yes, the lockdown did stem the flow. No, it has not done it's job. Not yet.

The job of the lockdown was to stop the health service from being overwhelmed due to a lack of preparedness and equipment. For most parts of the country and certainly here in CA, that has been achieved, i.e. job done. The added measures such as social distance, general hygiene, testing and self quarantine when showing symptoms will help reduce the spread.

It remains achieved because of the soft shutdown, much like how that town downstream remains unflooded because the dam is still there.

There are new cases every day and that will increase.

The job of the lockdown was to prevent the health system from being overwhelmed due to a lack of resources sufficient to meet the growth rate of the infection spread. That hasn't changed. And while they're beginning to get more equipment, there's still not enough, nor enough beds if we return to the rate of spread seen prior to the lockdown.

Social distancing is part of the lockdown. I suppose you could lift the lockdown and somehow expect people to maintain social distancing voluntarily? Hygiene, frankly, is irrelevant without social distancing and reduced in-person interaction. Testing doesn't reduce the rate of spread, it just identifies people sooner. Which may or may not reduce the need for hospitalization.

And the biggest problem here is that by the time you're showing symptoms, *if* you show symptoms, you've already been contagious for several days and have spread the infection to anyone you've come in contact with while presymptomatic or asymptomatic.

I agree we can't destroy the economy and need to find some reasonable approach to get things going again. But I don't think we can accomplish that if we pretend that there's no longer a risk from COVID.

In California we have an abundance of beds and ventilators. Currently our resources are under utilized.

Some beaches will be opening up soon.

In mid-February, Italy had an abundance of beds and ventilators. Their resources were under utilized.

Then in March, they didn't have an abundance any more. Because they didn't shut things down fast enough.

Italy is California's future, if you allow poorly constrained spread of the virus.

The ONLY thing that's different between CA today and Italy in mid-February is the lockdown. Remove it, and cases will explode. Unless something has changed that will prevent the virus from spreading in California. Do you have a vaccine you haven't told anyone else about?

But don't you know, California has reached herd immunity already. There's hardly anyone left who could get infected and hasn't already been, isn't already immune. We don't have any way to know this and aren't even trying to find out (by rolling out a reliable antibody test to a few 1000 randomly sampled Californians), but it seems pretty obvious.

Also, this shows that the real CFR is a fraction of that of the flu - probably below 0.01%, and that's assuming a lot of unidentified deaths already. Again, we have no way of knowing this since it depends on the unproven assumption that our first hypothesis is right, but let's assume it is, we sure want it to be true. If it appears to conflict with reports coming out of New York, this can only mean one of two things: New York is fudging their data, and New York is fudging their data. They must be - the virus is harmless. Just like China, they're also lying - given how big the country is, millions must have died!

Also, have you seen New York? It's ugly as hell, way too many people. Probably, now that the people there have time at there hands to actually look out the window (with hardly anyone on the streets), they realize they don't really want to live that life. If there's any excess deaths, that's probably why.

Theres this phenomena that happens when making charcoal. The activity of making charcoal is that you want to get the wood hot enough to burn, but in such a way there's not enough oxygen to catch it and actually cause it to burn. That way, the only chemical reaction left to it is oxidation reactions.

Social distancing is like removing the air from hot wood, the virus being the "heat" here. If you crack the mound open before the charcoal cools, it ignites and you get no charcoal no matter how long you kept the mound going; so too, with the virus, if you let people stop distancing the system will just ignite.

We need to ride the curve all the way down.

While an excellent analogy, Trump is instructing his psychophants to pay idiots to pretend to be “protestors” to incite other moron deplorables to kill themselves and their families, just so that Trump can boost his “ratings” before the election. He is almost literally instructing his idiot cult members to fall on their swords for their King and because he is such a pathetically desperate narcissist, he doesn’t have the capacity to understand that he’s killing off his own voting base.

He thinks that what will matter in the election is that he “opened” up the economy while “Democrats” tried to keep it closed, not that he ordered his own followers to kill family and friends for the simple reason that any of his followers that would do such a thing to begin with are so fucking idiotic that they actually would NOT hold that against him and truly believe that they are doing the patriotic thing by killing themselves.

All the way down is not feasible given how many people aren't obeying. All we can hope for is to get the counts low.

So, there is much more traffic out there in my quite conservative little town. Few mask wearers at the local grocery and home store save for my fellow libbies at our near organic/ethically raised/buy local grocery. Though people are very much aware of the social distancing. So, what to make of this? A show of support and at the same time distrust of Dear Leader?

Well, we have Locker room Jim Jordan showing his support:
“It’s obviously not a sign of bravery not to wear a mask," said Raskin. “It’s a sign of irresponsibility towards other people because when we wear a mask, we’re protecting them. When they don’t wear a mask, they’re not protecting us.”
Jordan said he was following the rules by maintaining six feet of social distancing from others in the hearing room.
That's not why they want you to stay six feet away from them Jim.

And at a more local level we have State Sen. Andrew Brenner and his despicable wife, Sara Marie doing what they do best, making despicable comments and then backing away with a wink and a nod:
A Republican state senator took to Facebook on Holocaust Remembrance Day to pledge he would not allow the Jewish Ohio Department of Health director to turn Ohio into Nazi Germany.
Despicable Spouse said:
“With a German accent, in your head say ‘Show me your papers’ … This actually feels like Hitler’s Germany where you had to have blond hair and blue eyes to be able to function anywhere, and you were damned otherwise. When are people going to say enough is enough?”
More Despicable Spouse said:
Sara Marie Brenner had also posted (and later deleted) a photo of an apparent Nazi concentration camp with this caption: “If people were told to get in cattle cars to be taken to virus protection camps, most of you would rush to get in line…”
Think the campaign contributions will come rolling in?

And then Governor DeWine gets out of his DeLorean and says said:
I am deeply concerned by the anti-Semitic sign at Ohio’s Statehouse during a recent protest rally. The sign was vile and disgusting. While even disgusting speech is constitutionally protected, it still demands condemnation. The recent Internet post by Ohio State Senator Andrew Brenner, likening Ohio’s Department of Health Director’s actions to fight the corona virus to those taken by the Nazis in Germany during World War II, must also be condemned. The comments showed a complete lack of understanding of the Holocaust — made even more offensive by posting on Holocaust Memorial Day — and was a slur on a good, compassionate, and honorable person who has worked non-stop to save lives and protect her fellow citizens. Any complaints about the policy of this administration need to be directed at me. I am the office holder, and I appointed the Director. Ultimately, I am responsible for the decisions in regard to the corona virus. The buck stops with me.
My bold.

Who is this guy and why does he not speak pure GOP?
Did Dear Leader hear of these comments? I hope not or Ohio is fucked.

Governor Dewine has been absurdly competent for GOP governor. He has waited for no permission from Trump to enact reasonable policies. Though it is sad that have reasonable policies is considered forward thinking for a Republican.

And that he actually spoke on this specific issue... again, he is leading with politics, letting docs take care of the rest. I had no idea he had this in him.

I can't wait to see how all of the Trumpsuckers here try to spin this one.

:eating_popcorn:

All they will have to do is to parrot the Clownstick: It was sarcasm...DUH!

:eating_popcorn:

Here's some examples from some trumpers:

TRUMP 2020 YOU MORONS! HE DIDNT SAY SHIT YOU LUNATICS

I sure hope you take the time to use the “inter web” you got there to research lab and file back ups of other illnesses and diseases - how they come about treating it, which with SARS they had patients outside in the sun and fresh air - TREATING patients quicker than inside a giant Petri dish - not to mention medical doctors, several countries stating they are realizing the ventilators are causing more harm, and how the virus attacks our oxygen transport - depleting our iron attachment and Hemoglobin (and red blood cell production).
Guess the top 4 medicines they are using in conjunction PROVING success rate and for the term lines - as well as supplementation of Vitamins C and D (zinc) as well as electrolytes, treatments of Bacterial infection (z packs).
So here’s some modern day science - you “hear” or “read” a word - which has several ways of being said - and suddenly the expertise. So you use Facebook to do your post briefing of “updates.”
Being a part of the “problem” is mostly ignorance.
Do some research. You’ll find out that there are other news sources besides the 50 friends you have on social media sharing copy and paste ad.
You can fear getting sick all
You want - hate on stuff.
“Educated minds” ....
only seems to have name calling in factor.
Research and updated take time - yet everyone seems to be on a soap box with nothing to share besides pessimism and weak access to proper info.
Feel free to google it. Use the scroll option.
I wish we had an injection that could take out all sorts of illness. It’s why we have research - trial & error. No
One wants to fail. But without it - we wouldn’t have answers.

Breitbart? Fucking really???

do you actually believe he implied to inject lysol?

This is why he will get Re Elected. The left resorts to all out lies now. Fucking libtard traitors.

It was taken completely out of context. All fake news clearly a majority of the population doesn’t comprehend #YouAreTheProblem

Dr. Dotard is now investigating cutting edge new Covfefe-19 treatments and is looking for candidates for testing a Lysol derivative injection:

Cigarette smoking is entirely voluntary.

If you develop type 2 diabetes through poor diet, that's a choice.

Unborn babies dont choose to be the victim of abortion.
...just sayin'

HEY EVERYBODY LOOK!
Heres a bunch of folks protesting for the right to bodily autonomy.

I think it is actually quite shameful that we allow here the pervasive and persistent use of rhetoric in lieu of actual rational thought.

How braindead would someone have to be to actually believe that WHERE your body goes is part of bodily autonomy? I mean shit, even prison inmates are generally afforded bodily autonomy, and they live in a fucking prison.
