Russian Invasion of Ukraine - tactics and logistics

The left side trees are also present in aftermath. So that side was not hit. But there seems to be also damage on the right hand top corner on the building, and inside the building in the aftermath photos, which I don't think are possible to be caused by this strike, that seems to hit the base of the building.

The point is, that there probably were multiple hits. This video just lasts 30 seconds, it's not a long time between missiles to strike. The subsequent blasts may have happened after this video ends (the original CCTV footage may have been longer, but the later hits would've been partially obscured by the smoke from the first one so maybe the guy who took the cell phone video didn't think think they were important enough).
I changed my mind. There is some footage in twitter showing the square after this hit:

Notice that the building roof has not yet been destroyed, but the smoke has cleared so some time has passed obviously. So this was indeed just a single strike, but the same building probably was struck sometime after, and some of the rubble in the aftermath videos is result from that.

I have been studying damage to the building, no signs of shrapnel, none!
Yes, according to my pro-ukrainian theory that rocket (with metal shell) penetrated soil very deep before exploding. But I find it hard to believe no shrapnel flying out.
So it does not make any sense.
The missile hit behind or at the base of the trees. Soft soil perhaps?

I seriously doubt either of our talent at being able to recognize "signs of shrapnel" or absence thereof among all that rubble.

With Russian now controlling 2 nuclear plants it is obvious the Russians are trying to cut Ukraine's electricity as much as possible. Does make since. Where would our modern world be without electricity?

Yeah, that was my first thought in them targeting nuke plants--it's not about nuke, it's about big powerplants. They want to be able to turn off the lights. Nuke plants have the extra advantage that retaking them is problematic because you can't use heavy weapons.

To take out a tank you need antitank ballistic missiles or other antitank weapons which they may not have in sufficient quality.

Ballistic?!?!

One they became aware of the approaching tanks they should have taken out every bridge in their path.

Molotive cocktails are likely to be ineffective because tanks are usually supported by companion infantry to prevent that type of assault and a molitove cocktail is just likely to burn it self out with out stopping the tank.

A mass of molotovs will stop a tank because all that fire uses up oxygen--the engine suffocates.

My favorite antitank weapons are the A10 aircraft and the sabot.

Ukraine does not have A10's.

We could easily supply sabots.
Sabot can only be fired from a tank gun or the like. Ukrainian tanks will be a target for Russian air. While they're not as deadly missiles would be the better choice because they're so much better for shoot-and-scoot.
Additionally, antitank mines are cheap and easy to deploy.

But hard to hide if deployed quickly. Minefields merely slow the enemy down.

However, I think a strike solely on Russian forces in Ukraine could be contained. We could make them realize that they couldn’t continue the fight. We’d do it really just one time, they have stumbled badly into this war and a determined resistance may prompt senior officials in the Kremlin to act against Putin.

The problem for Ukraine is that they haven’t been able to strike back deep into Russian missile and artillery batteries. Those units seem too far from the front line to experience war. Front line infantry aren’t doing so well. They need to knock out these batteries. Only air power can do that and Ukraine doesn’t seem to have much.
WWIII-like thinking detected.

It’s a risk. But I don’t think that if we hit his forces in Ukraine and refrained from a full scale invasion of Russia he wouldn’t use them. Remember that the Germans and the Allies had chemical weapons but he never used them for fear of reprisals.

There is no possibility of a stalemate. Ukrainian leadership values the lives of its citizens. Russian combatants are utterly expendable. Do the math.
Russian troops desert en-masse; If plausibly threatened with repercussions for so doing, they enact a coup.

Or is that not where you expected the math to take us?

Putin can try to make up for a lack of enthusiasm with increasing numbers of conscripts, but it's a double edged sword. A big army that's not also a loyal and motivated army is a very dangerous thing to try to wield.

NATO air power will throw them back, especially their artillery and mobile rocket batteries that are causing such indiscriminate destruction and death.
Is there any reason to think Pootey will hesitate to use nukes if his conventional forces are obliterated?
He won’t if they aren’t attacked in Russia.
IOW at the discretion of Putin to say “this is part of Russia”. Want to set off some nukes? Need an excuse? Ez peazy.

His lack of desire to see Russia turned into a radiactive sea of molten glass?

Is there any reason to think that Russia's big scary nuclear arsenal is in better condition to actually fight than his big scary conventional arsenal turned out to be?

I’ve long since abandoned expectations that my greatest hope will materialize. It’s certainly not ruled out, and of course if it happens it will be almost without warning.

Is there any reason the think that Russia's big scary nuclear arsenal is in better condition to actually fight than his big scary conventional arsenal turned out to be?

Even a tiny percentage of their claimed capability could wreak unprecedented destruction. Or, Putin might try a “tactical” nuke just to prove that he’s insane and must not be messed with.

Phoenix Mercury All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Brittney Griner has reportedly been detained in Russia on drug charges.

The New York Times reported that the Russian Federal Customs Service detained an American basketball player at Sheremetyevo Airport near Moscow after finding hashish oil vape cartridges in her luggage. The Customs Service didn't identify who was arrested, saying only that she'd won two Olympic gold medals.

Ukraine should become part of NATO. They know how to fight! They are sticking it to those fuckers. Russian military sucks! They can only terror bomb cities from afar. The question to ask is whether we can give them sufficient aid and supplies that they could make a difference. Now we are mulling giving them MiG-29’s back from Poland. Need to get them thousands of Javelin missiles and long range artillery. Need to pound their forces in Belarus and back in Russia such as air and logistic hubs.

Speaking of tactics. There is a youtube of a result of ukrainian tactics.
Remember these Molotov cocktail videos with grandmas? I thought it was all for the propaganda. Apparently a bunch of Ukrainian imbeciles from territorial defense forces actually tried it in practice.
Did not work too well against apparently a helicopter with automatic cannon, not a machine gun, a cannon, high speed automatic cannon.
So Russia is using automatic cannons against people desperately using worthless weapons?
Why not? these idiots were waiting for russian convoy. They were spotted and I presume helicopter was called. And these are not innocent idiot grandmas. They are terrorizing their own people by preventing them from leaving cities.

Now, you are getting annoying. Russians are specifically not doing that.
That Kharkiv city hall bombing? "Ukrainians" did that.
And it's "ukrainians" who terror bombed Lugansk with actual fatalities and injuries, not russians. Your Media choose not to report that.

Sure, sure. The Russians' incursion into Ukraine is nothing but a peaceful mission to rid its population of Nazi oppression.

Yes denazification and demilitarization.
Also I would like to add, that NATO totally sucked in Yugoslavia which is fair comparison to Ukraine. Both Ukraine and Yugoslavia have/had large and fairly sophisticated anti-aircraft defense. Iraq had very little of that, Afganistan had none of that.
Ukrainians moved remaining S-300 into the cities and keep them off for the most part. And Russians as I said before are not bombing anything in the cities.

By the way, the ukrainian terrorist ace who bombed Lugansk City Hall ...... is dead now, was shot down on March 2.

I hate to say it, but there really is no reasoning with the above. Not that it isn't happening all ready, but the world (not just the west) really needs to unite and absolutely attempt to bankrupt any country that invades another. Period. No more trade for Russia. No swift. Boycott any and all cultural events. If they are going to kill others for no reason, they should be evicted from benefiting from the world.
