The Race For 2024

I have skimmed over most of this thread, but when I saw. your post, it made me wonder if some of what my neighbor is saying might have a bit of truth to it. I doubt it, but still, it didn't seem possible that almost every county in the country would turn redder, including most in the Northeast, due to TRump's hatefulness and harmful policies, like deporting hard working immigrants, placing huge tariffs on foreign goods etc. WTF is going on! I'm actually beginning to wonder. Meanwhile "I'm going to wash that man right our of my hair.";) That is assuming my neighbor doesn't try to convince me of her conspiracy theories, or are they? :unsure:o_O
Had the exit polls not coincided with the results, then we can discuss irregularities. Unless you are suggesting the exit polls and the election results were both fraudulent.

But seriously, the Exit Polls are the check and they generally match up with the results.

About 5 million young folks who showed up for Biden last time just poofed into thin air this round. So it's either Biden had the magic that brought young voters out, Harris accidentally scared them off, or—I don't know—maybe the Democrats really did pull a heist in 2020? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The joys of non-compulsory voting.
I think Harris scared them off.

Edit: And by 'scared them off,' I mean she convinced them things were so rosy and optimistic that they figured, 'Eh, we can sit this one out; everything will be fine.

Edit 2: Correction 5 million.

Trump won the EC and the popular vote.

I know that it hard for many to believe you lost to a clown and a buffoon but you have.

Some Democrats are beginning to sound like MAGAs. We was robbed somehow.

LOL, I have to admit that I am pretty bad at that too. Never learned cursive in english. Can write pretty fast in english but not cursive. Surprisingly, russian is even worse than that, can write a signature after few attempts and that's it. Have to use printed letters and in russian they are very hard to write.
It was something like 15 years ago that I made a conscious decision to give up cursive other than for my signature. I decided that I spent too little time writing to make it worth the practice that would have been needed to keep it readable.

But not knowing how to do cursive doesn't mean you can't sign something. My wife doesn't use cursive in signing her name (she had to sign things before she learned cursive), it's never been a problem.

Voter suppression. Nothing was done about it.

Stages of grief. Anger, denial, etc. We've lost our country.

I read an article last night that gave me a tiny bit of hope. There are quite a few Republicans in the Congress that are already freaking out about Trump's tax break plans and how they will hurt the economy. They are trying to figure out a way to limit them, so as I said before, I'm hoping some will grow a pair and stand up to their orange master. One of the more frightening aspects is how he will try and use the military. If he orders them to do unlawful things, will they all comply or will there be some chaos? Trump won't have the power he thinks he does.

I'm deeply concerned but I have hope that at some point, his idiots in Congress will stop him. They are even trying to figure out if they can stop his plans to use an executive order to stop or reduce his threats of tariffs, as they know that will cause inflation to skyrocket. Let's wait and see if the dictator on day one gets his way or if our long standing laws and a small number of Republicans with half a brain are able to stop him from ruining the country. The country has survived a lot of awful things before, so let's not give up yet. We've never been perfect and never will, but hopefully, we can keep the asshole from total destruction. Just wait until his cult begins to realize the mistake they made. Meanwhile. I will live my life without constantly obsessing over this. I watched one of my favorite comedies last night and laughed my ass off. It was a nice break from what we are facing.

Their plan will likely be the same as last time:
  • Use Trump for their agenda (SC judges, tax cuts for the rich)
  • Hope that Trump doesn't push very hard to fulfil his populist promises.
Last time around Trump started a trade war with China and killed the Iran nuclear deal. I doubt most Republicans wanted either one of those things to happen but they let it happen anyway.

US House races. Looking like the final tally could be real close to the existing House. The Dems flipped seats, but the GOP did too.

Wanda Sykes represents my OH-13 district. It was gerrymandered to provide a +2 R advantage, but she beat generic GOP version of AOC two years ago, and defeated a relatively well known local this year. I'm curious of her survival but others didn't. Maybe her district really isn't +2 R.

We really have lurched rightward as a country. There's no comfortable out for my side. The best we can do, is do what the Repubs did during Clinton & Obama & Biden: become obstructionists, the Party of No, to the extent we can. They'll dismantle basic freedoms and obliterate Constitutional checks. But we shouldn't make it easy for them.
VERMINS, UNITE!! YOU HAVE TO FIGHT LIKE HELL OR YOU WON'T HAVE -- no, strike that. YOU MUST RESIST THE TRUMP POLICE STATE!! ALL VERMINS, GIVE THE VERMIN YELL!! (sounds like a long extended Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!)

Yes. It is amazing that Harris wouldn’t concede and simply declared victory for herself. I can’t wait for all the lawsuits she will file and I will buy my plane ticket to DC soon so I can attack the Capitol on her behalf.

To the right? Well, yes in the sense the Democrats had to get up on the Reaganomics pony to get elected. But otherwise, this isn't quite a movement to "the right", but a movement towards authoritarian rule. The GOP has successfully shift America to a direction that leads us back to the 1950s on Federal Regulation, and potentially to the late 19th century, before the 14th Amendment started being applied to states.
There's no comfortable out for my side.
That is very accurate. This election may allow Trump to appoint two 35 year old true believers to SCOTUS to serve 40 years as rubber stamps to corporate desire. America has voted for Corporate rule of law this time around, and they have no clue they did so. They likely also voted for an abortion ban as well. Then we look at birth control, naughty images, etc...

Things were looking bad with a Harris win. Things look irreversible with Trump. And this is ignoring the threats included in Project 2025. They get to finish what they started in 1981 with starving the Government and beginning to defund and close Social Security / Medicare.

. Just wait until his cult begins to realize the mistake they made.
Thats pretty optimistic. It’s more like wait until those millions of people who voted for Biden in 2020 but chose to sit out 2024 realized they probably should have voted for Harris even though she is a minority woman.

He still only got 50% of the vote, it was hardly a landslide. He still has a serious numbers problem, and he'll only have more and more of a numbers problem if he starts trying to enact any of his "policies".

Oh? You think Republicans will tear their hair and weep, saying "we though he was just kidding!" if he has Adam Schiff or Liz Cheney arrested, kills off social security and medicare, or attacks Americans with their own military? No, they'll be elated. Even if he kills them they'll die proudly.

Such drama.

You didn't lose a country, the democrats lost an election. And in four years time, insufferable prick Gavin Newsom will give the democrats a chance to win the next election and you will "get your country back".
