The Race For 2024

Trump won the EC and the popular vote.

I know that it hard for many to believe you lost to a clown and a buffoon but you have.

Some Democrats are beginning to sound like MAGAs. We was robbed somehow.
Stages of grief. Anger, denial, etc. We've lost our country.

Such drama.

You didn't lose a country, the democrats lost an election. And in four years time, insufferable prick Gavin Newsom will give the democrats a chance to win the next election and you will "get your country back".
Tswizzle, if your party had lost all three houses of government to Democrat control, they'd be losing their goddamned minds. You should be glad that polite, subdued grief is all you're getting from the "left". But of course, gratitude is not something your kind is known for, is it? You are perennially sore losers, ungracious winners, and piss-poor leaders. And the chickens will come home to roost.

In recent history, every time the Democrats get the country back, it isn't in remotely good shape. Then the conservatives are angry the Dems haven't fixed it fast enough. We really have no idea what is on the horizon. There were things baked in the system for Federal Regulatory powers being diminished by SCOTUS. But now with Project 2025 overhead and a lot of quite out there statements by Trump, we are in a holding pattern of not really knowing just how far he plans to take things. That isn't drama... it is what the MAGA team led with. Mass deportations (insinuating suspension of Habeas Corpus because that'd be the only way to do it so fast), massive tariffs who will do who knows what to prices of imports, Musk is promising hard times to make things better, and Project 2025's attempt to turn the Exec Branch from a primarily Bureaucratic Branch to a Loyalist Branch.

Tswizzle, if your party had lost all three houses of government to Democrat control, they'd be losing their goddamned minds.

First of all, I do not belong to a party, I am an independent.

Now that you have got that off your chest, how about you fill me in on what you mean by "we have lost our country"? Lost it to where, how? How is the country lost, given that the democrats can win it back in four years time? And I will give serious consideration to voting democrat (depending on how the next four years pans out) next time providing it is not the tyrant Newsom and they have decent policies.

Well they got the country back in 2020 and made it worse. And then you all whine because the electorate said fuck this.

You really are all in with this project 2025 conspiracy shit.

I'm curious how much you think Trump should be allowed to neglect Habeas Corpus with his rule.
Have you not noticed? Neglecting stuff he doesn’t like is what Trump does. It’s not an active thing, it’s about not doing things. Like worrying about fraud statutes, economic statistics, habeus whatshisname and other stuff that’s just for suckers and losers.

Well they got the country back in 2020 and made it worse.
In what way?
Tom
People were told that it sucked. Over and over and over until they believed it.
They think that Biden took over a thriving economy and created massive inflation in a matter of weeks, somehow.
They think
Trump is a very stable genius, shrewd businessman who really gets what it's like to work hard for a living while under assault from The Establishment.
They think he understands, he gets US.
Just like Jesus.
He will overturn the tables of the money changers and give the ill gotten gains back to The People.*

Because he never committed those 39 cases of felony fraud for which he was convicted - that he was wrongfully convicted is proof that the system needs to be trashed!
(Or that he stole from his own kids' "charity", defrauded Trump University suckers... etc etc etc etc etc )

* If he does it right, Trump should be richer than Putin in just a few years; there's SO much more $$$ to suck out of Americans than out of Russians!

For a conspiracy theory, Project 2025 sure is substantial. For one thing, IT EXISTS. That alone puts it in the "elite credibility level" subcategory within all conspiracy theories. For another, it is spelled out, literally and in great detail, within the documentation in evidence. That, combined with #1, makes it entirely unique among all conspiracy theories. A Venn diagram would show it as the only part of the "conspiracy theories" bubble that overlaps the "reality" bubble.
A considerable amount of money and manpower have gone into Project 2025, and I reckon that the vested interests will be expecting some returns real soon now that their boy is back.

Given that it looks like the House is gone, too, I'm gonna by extremely cynical and say "let it all burn." Let him run up 100 percent tariffs on China. Let him spend a trillion on rounding people up and putting them into camps. When the crops begin to rot in the fields (or don't get planted in the first place), new housing construction costs skyrocket, millions are thrown out of work due to a deep recession, and the dental bills for millions of kids with tooth decay thanks to RFK start to mount, maybe the MAGA idiots will figure out that they were sold a bill of goods.

Let it all burn. It's the only way we've ever learned any lesson. /rant

I am not so sanguine that that would work at all.
"Dems didit" is now a religious tenet that applies whenever MAGAts feel pain.

Their plan will likely be the same as last time:
  • Use Trump for their agenda (SC judges, tax cuts for the rich)
  • Hope that Trump doesn't push very hard to fulfil his populist promises.
Last time around Trump started a trade war with China and killed the Iran nuclear deal. I doubt most Republicans wanted either one of those things to happen but they let it happen anyway.
I don't think he cares about his promises. He's never going to stand for election again no matter what so what difference does it make?

I expect most of his promises to be nothing but hot air. It's the turning our country into a fascist theocracy that I'm worried about. As well as squashing anything that interferes with business--I expect to end up uninsured.

Why do you think there will be a meaningful election in 2028?

What will it take to overturn term limits?

Not much. Declare an emergency. National security is what fascists usually claim.
No need for elections; the Donald will keep you warm and protected under his 375lb blanket of fat.
But states run the elections. If Donald declares a non-existent emergency and California decides to hold elections anyway, what then? Civil war?

“Go ahead and have an election if you like. You can hold your votes for when The Emergency is passed. Meanwhile, get with the program or be arrested.”
