Trump falls!! Hurt too

He is playing up the injury at the convention ,naturally. Got a big band-aid on his ear. Makes me wonder if the conventions still has all those purple band-aids they used to mock John Kerry's three purple hearts?
A very strange looking band-aid. And if that's taped in place it's clear (and I've never encountered clear bandage tape) and stuck to hair (huh??) I think that's a prop.

Three snipers were stationed inside building used in Trump assassination attempt

There were three snipers stationed inside the building the shooter used during Saturday's shooting of former President Donald Trump, a local law enforcement officer with direct knowledge of the incident tells CBS News.

...

One of the snipers inside saw Thomas Matthew Crooks outside and looking up at the roof, observing the building and disappearing, a local law enforcement officer tells CBS News.

Crooks came back, sat down and looked at his phone. At that point, one of the snipers took a picture of him...

If this is true, this whole thing is a massive failure by the Secret Service.
Snipers inside a building? And who did they belong to? The state may have supplied some to work in conjunction with Secret Service.
Yeah, that really doesn't make sense. You want your snipers up high with a clear field of fire. There was a crowd there, a sniper at crowd level won't be able to see much.

I could understand it being local idiot cops who thought he was a friendly, but I can't imagine the Secret Service accepting such behavior.

Surprise!

Donald Trump arrived at the Republican National Convention on Monday surrounded by an almost all-male security detail - a dramatic change from the Secret Service team he had Saturday when an assassin's bullet nearly killed him. The apparent change comes following discussions on social media that Trump's women protective agents were too short to protect the 6ft 3in candidate, and that a female agent could be seen struggling to holster her firearm. The chaotic scenes at the rally cast doubt on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle's controversial bid to 'diversify' the agency and make the male-dominated force absorb 30 percent female recruits by 2030.

Daily Mail
I would really doubt any Secret Service agent would have any trouble holstering.

But being short is relevant.

The widow of Corey Comperatore, the heroic volunteer firefighter killed while shielding his family during the shooting at a Donald Trump campaign rally, said that the former president has not reached out to the grieving family.

The silence from Trump contrasts with an attempted call from President Joe Biden, which the Comperatore family declined. Helen Comperatore, speaking from her home in Sarver, Pennsylvania, told the New York Post in an exclusive interview, "I didn't talk to Biden. I didn't want to talk to him," adding, "My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to him."
Trump went golfing.
This needs to be a bigger story. It’s disgusting!
It's not true, though. Not the golfing part, that is. I can easily believe the family's testimony, but the thing about Trump going golfing was an internet to-do.

Even if the golf isn’t true the fact that he didn’t call the widow of his own supporter who was killed at his rally is disgusting enough.
True, though quite typical of the man. I doubt he knows any of their names.

Especially when that “6ft 3in” candidate refused to duck down, preferring to keep his head high to hold up his fist and yell to his supporters whose lives he doesn’t actually care about.

I would think they were local cops with orders to position themselves at the corners of the building to prevent anyone from approaching/climbing. Instead they decided to hang out together in whatever shade they could find, falsely reporting in that they were in position.

One thing though, Trump was a victim of serious trauma on Saturday. Someone tried to murder him. So in the rare case where I think it is valid, I think that he should be cut a bit a slack for that. Someone at his campaign or family however should have done something,

New reports say the shooter was interrupted prior to firing by a police officer trying to climb onto the roof. The shooter briefly aimed at him to make him retreat, then opened fire. It’s very likely that being rushed affected his aim.

Everything coming out about security indicates a total clown show.
Sort of expected after over 40 years since the last attempt on a President/former President. A ton of false negatives. I'm wondering how many other events they'll review as well.

This is what DEI hires lead to.
Amazing that this is where the alt-right wing minds immediately go towards.

I guess there’s a lot of DEI going on in that neck of the woods. Perimeter security is the responsibility of local LE, and site security is up to the campaign. (Not much DEI THERE!) USSS is responsible for personal protection of presidential candidates at taxpayers' expense, not for the security of the venues hosting the circus.
What is troubling is this DEI shit came out quickly after the shooting. In fact, I originally had no idea that the DEI reference was even to the shooting.

I see the shooting and I'm hoping it was apolitical, random, and one-time only thing for the next 80 years. And the deplorables immediately latch onto DEI because they saw a woman they thought was short, despite the fact that the failure of Trump's protection had nothing to do with that.

I don’t know. He had enough awareness to make political gestures with fist in air so it’s not clear to me that he was suffering too much trauma.

Now that he’s recovered enough to attend the convention and announce his VP has he made that call?

Trump was nearly killed on Saturday. If not for an officer, who rushed things for the shooter, Trump could be dead at this point. This is serious. This is awful. This is why I don't find jokes about it funny. It is nothing short of deplorable. Regardless Trump's acts especially regarding January 6th that got one of his followers killed, taking his assassination attempt with any sense of humor or immaturity is not humane.

And then we get this.

Now keep in mind:
article said:
"Trump Sneakers are not designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals," it notes.
Of course, a random selection of 10 will be autographed.

This makes me wonder, why should I even take his life seriously, when he doesn't?!

Honestly, if it weren't for Trump's image on the sneakers, I'd buy them if I saw them on the rack in a store.

The worst.
Not only has Trump gained credibility for his “victim” claims, not only has this event thrown more gas on the flames of social division, but we haven’t even gained the inestimable benefit of Trump being dead.
It sucks.

Competence with firearms has taken second place to adoration of firearms, which are now mythical symbols of magical power
Nobody wants to be left behind. All the neighbors have mythical symbols of magical power.
GAWD! Murkins are fucking stupid.

There is no benefit to Trump being dead.
I disagree 100%.
Nothing but bad things will come from Trump continuing to live. His death would have been a salve to the nation.

Not only does that go against everything I personally stand for, it would also serve to strengthen the ideas Trump represents. The country would be far worse off if the attempt on his life were successful. The attempt itself has already made things worse.

The attempt itself has already made things worse.

I agree with that of course.
The fact that it was just an attempt has made things even worse IMO.
Looks like we will have lots of time to see what the effect of the attempt’s failure will be, and to speculate about whether things would be better or worse if it had succeeded.

This is a complicated discussion. Without the "personality" that is trump, those who would have a "king" are sent scrambling for 4-8 more years to anoint a new king candidate, but it doesn't do anything about those who would have a king or the forces bent towards pushing folks to demand one.

It's a stopgap to which there are an infinite number of replacement figureheads.

It has as much power to martyr him as anything else.

The kingmakers, though, are situated to make their removal difficult. Their "base" are strewn through rural areas being directed by the churches and other groups. The heads are situated at the top of media companies and in the shadowy seats of boardrooms.

The answer here is not straightforward, and the one thing that could well deplete the base, a civil war, could go either way.

The problem of the third Reich wasn't Hitler, it was the millions of Germans who supported the existence of a king, and the only reason they escaped it is because enough of those people died in the war or were disempowered after it to ground out that charge.

I cannot recall a single instance where the assassination of a key political figure did not lead to instability and ongoing conflicts, with only the illusion of peaceful periods in between. Although some assassinations worldwide have prompted a positive refocus on issues and led to significant peace treaties and alliances, the underlying problems have persisted for generations, and violence has continued. In my opinion, assassinations only add more pressure to the throttle.

Has it made things worse? Trump wasn't exactly not inciting violence BEFORE the attempt. Project 2025 was developed before the attempt. SCOTUS was ruling some crazy ass shit before the shooting. Our democracy was setting before the shooting.

Had the attempt been politically motivated, I think it would have benefitted Trump. But otherwise, it generally feels like status quo. Heck, look at the alt-right post shooting and they are all about DEI.
