Is Georgia on your mind?

The best example of course is Marjorie Taylor Green, who claims that Democrats want to kill Republicans, among other things. She refers to the voters that way, not just the Democratic politicians.
There was also Hillary with her "basket of deplorables" though. So it's not all one-sided.
I agree that neither Abrams nor Warnock resorted to such statements though.
Although it wasn’t great for her campaign to say that it does lie much closer to the truth than Green’s claim. Another example of uneven “both sides”-ism.

After her miracle in 2020, I don't question her. She proved her expertise. The larger issue is the sized douchebag a Republican needs to be to lose statewide office in Georgia.

That and the size of douchebag Democrats need a Republican to be in order to win a state election. Democrats need to get it through their heads that "Bad Republican!" is not the message that wins an election in a state like Georgia.
Except Abrams gets it. She knew what it would take to win... she helped lead a massive turnout in 2020 that led to a substantial upset in the state and the US senator races. So I'm not one to question her methods. Kemp isn't anywhere as bad a candidate as Walker, that he is polling better, shouldn't be a surprise.

I just voted. Our county poll workers are fantastic, very organized and friendly. I only had to wait about 20 minutes. I'm just glad it's done. We kept telling the workers how much we appreciated them. Hopefully voting will go this smoothly in all of Georgia.

I just saw that JD Vance is slightly ahead in Ohio. If Jimmy reads this post, does he think Vance has a chance? He may not be as dump as Walker, but he's just as awful, imo. Ugh!

I didn't think Vance had a chance. But apparently I'm just not learning. Tim Ryan is the absolute perfect Democrat to run for Senate in Ohio. He is moderate to conservative in all the right places, no suits, looks like the common guy sort of persona. JD Vance is some business nobody who got the blessing of Trump and was campaigning about the fucking border wall. As things stand today, I'd say that JD Vance appears to be edging ahead in the polls. However, as I've stated previously, I think the polls are all going to miss a substantial turnout of young and middle aged women who are voting 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 for the Democrats because of Dobbs. And Vance's lead, I don't believe is large enough to manage that. Sadly, the higher turnout is not knowable, so Ohio, ultimately is a toss-up. (Despite my "Jumping the Gun" post in the 2022 thread in PD speaking a tad bit otherwise ;))

The Democrat Party knows what is on the line in November. Biden really knows, as his Presidency ends in January if the Dems lose the House or Senate. So I think the gloves are coming off and the Dems are going to "make things real". So look for the Dems to be pushing hard on more issues. I just wish the Democrats would mention the millions of jobs created during the Biden Administration verses's "the last guy". No, the economy isn't super awesome, but it isn't pathetic either. The doldrums are more manufactured perception by the right-wing. So much emphasis in campaigning has been on abortion, which I think is a huge leader... and maybe that is all that matters when pushing hard on non-voting women who'd turn out 3:1 to 4:1 in your favor. It is all sociology and generally they know the impact each ad is supposed to have on a demographic. And why push hard to get 5:4 Independents to turn out when 3:1 to 4:1 'electorate treasure' is out there.

Howard Dean made a lot of decisions that were hard to swallow that ended with the Dems getting a super-majority in the Senate in 2008. I'm hoping the leadership has similar vision.

Thanks for you input Jimmy. I sure hope you are correct about the Dems being motivated to vote. All of my closest friends have already voted a straight Dem ticket, but I have no idea about the rest of the population.

Hispanic voters in Georgia are evenly divided between supporting Gov. Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams, according to a new poll released Wednesday. Republican hopeful Herschel Walker has an edge over U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.

The poll released Wednesday by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution/Georgia News Collaborative poll pegged Abrams at 49% and Kemp at 48% among Hispanic voters. That’s well within the poll’s margin of error of 5.6 percentage points.

Walker, meanwhile, had a 47-41 advantage over Warnock. Another 11% of Hispanic voters indicate they’ll back Libertarian Chase Oliver.

What's wrong with these people? I do wonder if they are voting for the idiot Libertarian as a protest, but what in the world do they see in Walker. This was a very small poll, less than 400 people, so it may be meaningless.

I had no idea that Kemp was considering running for president. Ew. He wouldn't be as bad as some of the other Republican candidates but I just don't see his appeal, other than the fact that he would at least admit it if he lost.

It's starting. This happened in the place where I voted yesterday.

State election officials say a possibly fake ballot was discovered at an early voting location in Spalding County Wednesday morning, officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News.

A full-scale investigation is now underway about who created it and why.

Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne
spoke to state elections director Blake Evans, who said officials at the Georgia Secretary of State’s office believes someone was trying to cast doubt on election integrity.

Evans said officials in Spalding immediately notified them when they spotted something off with a ballot.

“They identified one ballot that looked visibly different than the rest of the ballots and that appears to be a fake ballot,” Evans said. “They alerted us and we have opened and are conducting an investigation into the matter.”

RELATED STORIES:

Evans said the suspicious ballot does not appear to be on security paper used for all real Georgia ballot, which can be authenticated by running a special wand over it. Spalding elections officials found the ballot in a box where ballots drop after they are scanned into a scanner at the polling place.

Winne asked Evans if the scanning system worked.

“Yes, the system worked,” Evans said. “They county found that their numbers (didn’t match).”

The Spalding scanner showed 1,521 ballots had been entered into the system, but Spalding election officials showed only 1,520 voters checked in.

“The ballots that were in their scanner were one up, so one more than the number of voters that they had checked in,” Evans said.

Evans said he and others at the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office believe that the ballot wasn’t created to add one more vote for a series of candidates, but to cast doubt on election integrity across the state.

Evans said whoever created the fake ballot put too much time into it for it to be a one-off.

He said whoever is behind it will face serious consequences.

“It is a crime if it is, indeed, a fake ballot,” Blake said. “We just started the investigation. It’s ongoing, and we’re moving quickly.”

Spalding County election board chair Ben Johnson told Winne that his company, Liberty Technology, has been serving Spalding County honorably for close to a decade without a problem. He said Liberty Technology does not maintain the Dominion Voting equipment, nor election registration or election management software or hardware.

AOC is charming and articulate. She’s good at commanding attention, partially because she’s very attractive but also because she’s really smart and articulate. I’m sure I find her smart and articulate partially because I agree with much of her POV.
I will give you attractive, and even articulate, but charming? I find her grating. Nails on blackboard level grating. And she is not nearly as smart as she, and her fans, believe she is. She has a degree in economics from Boston U., but has very superficial understanding of economics. And before she was elected (under the radar, in a very low turnout primary) to Congress, she worked as a bartender, and not in her field.

What's wrong with these people? I do wonder if they are voting for the idiot Libertarian as a protest,
Why do you say he is an idiot?
but what in the world do they see in Walker. This was a very small poll, less than 400 people, so it may be meaningless.
It is interesting that Warnock does much better than Abrams overall, but among Hispanics she does much better (even 1 percentage point over Kemp) than Warnock. I do not think they see that much in Walker, but I do think they cannot abide Warnock. Probably because he is a Baptist minister (who would not even give up his pulpit when he got elected) and most of them are Catholic. And they also tend to be more religious and thus more socially conservative, so they may be against Warnock because of his support for abortion and gay rights.

The size of the sample is not that big a problem. 309 can still give you a decent MOE, and note that this is a state poll of a subpopulation. They don't tend to have huge sample sizes. A much bigger problem than the sample size is the model used to identify likely voters and weigh the poll sample accordingly. That is a big problem with polling anyway, and I am sure it is a much bigger problem when dealing with subpopulations and not just population at large.

PRESIDENT KEMP? Gov. Brian Kemp is increasingly becoming a darling of the conservative media. The latest proof came Tuesday when a Fox News host asked if he would be a “front-runner” for president in 2024 if he defeats Stacey Abrams.
I do not see it, especially If Abrams fights him to a close race. But stranger things have happened, so who knows?

I didn't think Vance had a chance. But apparently I'm just not learning.
I thought he would be done as soon as he suggested that porn should be banned.
Tim Ryan is the absolute perfect Democrat to run for Senate in Ohio. He is moderate to conservative in all the right places, no suits, looks like the common guy sort of persona. JD Vance is some business nobody who got the blessing of Trump
Didn't Vance also write a very popular book that even got turned into a movie? And he is a Marine too. It's a mistake to dismiss him as a "business nobody".
Tim Ryan is fine as far as he goes, but he is a cookie cutter career politician, nothing special as far as his biography. He went into state legislature straight out of law school and has served in the US House for the last 20 years.

and was campaigning about the fucking border wall.
Given the clusterfuck at the border, we need to change things, and better physical security of the border needs to be a part of it, as does reforming our laws, including asylum law which is stuck in the past.

As things stand today, I'd say that JD Vance appears to be edging ahead in the polls. However, as I've stated previously, I think the polls are all going to miss a substantial turnout of young and middle aged women who are voting 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 for the Democrats because of Dobbs.
Right. Polls are dependent on turnout models and Dobbs is likely throwing a spanner into those.
Vance is staunchly anti-abortion, and as we have seen in Kansas, that view is not very popular even in the more conservative leaning flyover states.

No, the economy isn't super awesome, but it isn't pathetic either. The doldrums are more manufactured perception by the right-wing.
Inflation is a real issue, and one hurting people directly. Mostly not Biden's fault, but he and congressional Dems pushing for many more trillions in spending is not helping their case. Biden also has a relatively low approval rating, and president's party traditionally loses in midterms.
Dobbs is the only thing that could save Dem majorities in Congress.

So much emphasis in campaigning has been on abortion, which I think is a huge leader... and maybe that is all that matters when pushing hard on non-voting women who'd turn out 3:1 to 4:1 in your favor.
Careful. Many women are pro-life. The gender gap on abortion is overstated, but I think there probably is a gender gap in how likely this issue is to affect whether and for whom they vote.

It is all sociology and generally they know the impact each ad is supposed to have on a demographic. And why push hard to get 5:4 Independents to turn out when 3:1 to 4:1 'electorate treasure' is out there.
The more ideological on either side are more likely to vote anyway. The independents do not view either party as being too closely aligned with them, so they need more coaxing to get out and vote. They are also more likely to switch because of something like abortion.

Howard Dean made a lot of decisions that were hard to swallow that ended with the Dems getting a super-majority in the Senate in 2008. I'm hoping the leadership has similar vision.
Dean's 50 state strategy was a good one. Too bad it was abandoned.

OMFG!!!! VOTER FRA.... Oh wait... they noticed almost immediately, and it was never counted. Also, they'll investigate and possibly determine who is was (possibly right after or before the ballot near it in the pile).

So if this were to make people think voter fraud was a real problem, it only convinced those who already thought it was.

There are some fantastic advantages and benefits granted to NA-owned businesses in GSA bids …
There should not be any racial or ethnic discrimination when it comes to government contracts.
Unless Liz was running a supply business I can’t see any way her claim could benefit her.
She was hired by Harvard as a "woman of color".

I guess that after watching the pathetic Walker/Warnock debate, the Kemp/Abrams debate seemed pretty rational. I did have trouble paying attention at times, partly due to being distracted by the crazed Libertarian. I knew the Libertarian ideology was a bit extreme, but that guy is totally nuts. No taxes, no police, no public schools...... Yeah! That sounds like a great plan. FREEDUMB!
Seems like he is an anarchist.

Right. Polls are dependent on turnout models and Dobbs is likely throwing a spanner into those.
Vance is staunchly anti-abortion, and as we have seen in Kansas, that view is not very popular even in the more conservative leaning flyover states.
And polls are based on who responds to pollsters. There are so many pollsters these days that this will produce a very non-random sample. By now I'm hanging up on probably 10/day.

No offense, Derec, but I would bet on AOC's understanding of economics to be more comprehensive and thorough than yours. Or mine. And hell, I listen to that crap all the time at home. No, she probably doesn't have the depth of understanding that someone with a Ph.D. in economics usually does but it appears that she did quite well as a student. And Boston U is a good school.

Charming depends of course on people's tastes and sensibilities. Some people apparently find Trump charming, for instance, although neither of us do. I've seen her as a guest on late night shows: she can be very engaging and charming.

Do I always agree with her? Nope. But I respect her and her achievements and her positions on many issues.

Exactly! Anyone with a somewhat working brain will know what this was about. The people who work at my polling place are fantastic. They found the fake ballot and reported it. But, the idiots who believe in election fraud may take this criminal act and use it to come up with a new conspiracy. I sure hope the find the asshole who did this.

There should not be any racial or ethnic discrimination when it comes to government contracts.

Tell it to the NA community.
I never complained about losing a bid to the people who were displace from THEIR land, had THEIR culture destroyed along with their PROPERTY.
But conservatives scream bloody murder as if THEY were victims. That’s just what they do.

The SCOTUS has been handing Drumpf the L for a while now.

The cards are in the table and now that the hustle is over, all the loose ends and old blood will be swept away. They were always patsies in the first place for the likes of The Heritage Foundation.

Are you still babbling about Elizabeth Warren? :confused2: Here in the "Georgia" thread?? :confused2: You have almost as big a crush on her as you have on AOC.

Ms. Warren was a distinguished and influential law professor before she even entered politics, has written 12 books, proposed and established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, for which she served as the first special advisor under President Barack Obama, and so on. Her first college enrollment was on a scholarship because she won her state high school debating championship.

But you need to pretend she advanced only because of a lie about ethnicity. This is the sort of Big Issue you bring to our political debates. Wow. Even after it's already been explained to you that the "lie" wasn't even a lie: 1/64 Cherokee is 1/64 Cherokee.

Sheeezh. Ask one of these women out on a date already! Or ask one of your girlfriends to dress up as AOC or Senator Warren. Leave us out of it.
