Breakdown In Civil Order

Oh so predictable;

Despite major investments in housing and intervention programs, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the Los Angeles area continues to climb, with results of the most recent count released Thursday showing a 9% year-over-year increase in homelessness in the county, and a 10% jump in the city. The figures continue a steady climb in the number of Southland homeless people over the past five years. In 2018, there were 52,765 homeless counted in the county, and 31,285 in the city.

It's almost as if such a complicated problem can't be solved easily. Weird.

This is a good quote from that link:
"It is frustrating to have more people fall into homelessness even as we are investing hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and resources into efforts to bring people inside. I appreciate the cities that have stepped up and supported solutions, but these numbers prove that solutions-oriented cities are too few and far between."

A couple of cities here and there trying to step up won't cut it. If that's the case then all the homeless form the surrounding area will merge into that one city. If all cities actually invest it could prevent the "solutions-oriented" cities from getting overwhelmed.

Homelessness is compounded by more people losing housing because its unaffordable : NPR - "Despite more attention and money to reduce homelessness, the numbers in many U.S. cities keep going up. Experts say a key reason is the persistent lack of affordable housing."
LUDDEN: Well, you know, for sure we do see cities really struggling with homeless encampments. This is hard. But experts tell me it's not like programs to move people into housing don't work. Los Angeles helps thousands find housing every year. The problem, they say, is that even more people keep losing housing because it is increasingly unaffordable. So nationwide, the places with the most homelessness are those where you have poverty and high housing costs.
What's happening?
LUDDEN: So there's a landmark study just out that surveyed thousands of people without homes in California, and researchers interviewed hundreds of them. Margot Kushel at the University of California, San Francisco, says many describe this slow slide as they struggled to keep paying rent. They may have lost income, had their hours cut at work. Or some lost a job because of a health crisis, or the rent just went up. Kushel says a lot of people crowded in with relatives or friends.
Also,
STEVE BERG: You hear of places that - where they're trying to build new, affordable apartment buildings. And the powers that be in the city don't want to have it. You know, neighbors will say, we don't want low-income people living here. And they'll stop the housing from being built.
What can be done quickly?
"LUDDEN: You know, at the top of that list would be expanding federal housing subsidies."

4 reasons why homelessness keeps going up : NPR
1. More people than ever are being housed — but an even higher number are falling into homelessness

...
"We've done a lot" to improve how people are placed into housing, says Steve Berg, chief policy officer at the National Alliance to End Homelessness. But he says that's only half the equation. "The other half is people losing their housing ... and we have not had any kind of extensive or organized effort on that," he says.

The upshot is that, in Los Angeles and elsewhere, even as record numbers of people are being housed, a greater number of them are falling into homelessness.

Berg says one key reason is that only 1 in 4 Americans who qualify for a federal housing subsidy actually get it, and that's been the case since he was in law school decades ago.
and
2. Rents are out of reach for many, and millions of affordable places have disappeared

"People just ran out of the ability to pay, whether it happened quickly or slowly," says lead investigator Margot Kushel of the University of California, San Francisco.
and
3. Zoning laws and local opposition make it hard to build housing for low-income renters

Voters around the country approved spending for more affordable housing last year, and a record number of apartments are under construction. More places are also loosening zoning laws — some of which date back to segregation — to allow more multifamily buildings in residential neighborhoods. Housing experts say all this is needed to help ease the tight market and bring down prices over time.
and
4. Pandemic aid programs that helped keep many people housed are winding down

An annual count last year did find a pause in the relentless rise of homelessness. Biden administration officials, among others, credit the sweeping array of pandemic aid programs that limited evictions, helped people pay rent and boosted other financial supports. Princeton's Eviction Lab calculates such policies cut eviction filings in half.

Those programs have largely ended in many places and are winding down in others.

Saw this tweet this morning:

Don't always agree with Woodliff, but in this he ain't wrong! My man and I were hanging out in the Haight this last weekend, and it felt more like my "the old days" than it has in years. Noot had business out the door, the park was "lit" on any number of levels, someome started a random ass poetry thing, it was great. People need to loosen up and realize that change isn't always the end of the world!

Conservatism is the fundamental (and fundamentally flawed) belief that change absolutely is the end of the world.

This leads to the hilarious spectacle of conservatives throughout the whole of recorded history (and probably before) getting frothing-at-the-mouth angry about change, while clearly and obviously benefiting massively from it.

I'm sure they feel the same way about the glories of "Western Culture", provided they're allowed to narrowly define and color-code its parameters to exclude most Western cultures and subcultures.

Bundy busted. Owes $26 million dollars. Civil order is restored.

....
"In March of last year, Bundy was arrested for trespassing outside of St. Luke’s Meridian Medical Center, where 10-month-old 'Baby Cyrus' was being treated. The then-gubernatorial candidate organized a week-long protest, claiming Cyrus was 'medically kidnapped' over a 'missed non-emergency doctor’s appointment,'" reported Kate Briquelet. "Two months later, St. Luke’s hospital filed a defamation suit against Bundy and Diego Rodriguez, the child’s grandpa and an activist in Bundy’s far-right People’s Rights Network (PRN). The complaint also named their companies, including Rodriguez’s Freedom Man Press, which posted Baby Cyrus 'kidnapping videos.'"

According to the report, the jury decided that Bundy, Rodriguez, and the entities they control are liable for $26.5 million in compensatory damages, and almost $26 million in punitive damages.

Just another day in Newsom's California;

Wild video posted online shows the moment a female driver got out of her car on San Francisco's Bay Bridge naked, and began shooting at cops. The unidentified woman could be seen in cellphone footage walking through the lanes of Interstate 80 without any clothes or underwear on as she pointed a handgun at passing cars. She was later approached by California Highway Patrol officers, who arrested her without incident.

Daily Mail

We are living in the biggest outdoor psych ward in history.

And whose fucking fault is that? The last thing we need is more Republicans shoving even more people out of care and into the streets.

I note that the response to the incident was swift, and concluded with the woman's arrest. Isn't that what you want? Everyone in jail but you? Or are you unhappy because you wanted someone to shoot her? What about about this situation would be different if Larry Elder were the governor, and why would that be better?

Be detailed, please. An eyeroll emoji is not a rebuttal, it's how tweens flirt with each other.

Also, Highway Patrol statements that say “It became pretty clear immediately she was experiencing some sort of mental health crisis,” and “We are grateful no one was harmed in this incident. Our officers were able to get there, deescalate that situation, get her to drop her weapon and take her into custody."

So good job Newsom, I guess. He gets the blame for the woman's mental health so he also gets the credit for how well the cops did, right?

(Also, weird that the Daily Mail thinks that's the biggest local crime story, when two carjackers drove a stolen Lincoln straight off of the Sanchez Steps like a dang Fast and Furious movie, just this past weekend. I mean, that's the story everyone is actually talking about around here. But I guess since the accused were white straight and sort of sane it ain't news?)

You mean Trump's Republican party?

You're living in a representative democracy, so in a very real sense, that's your own fault.

When did you last vote for a tax increase to pay for proper mental health care services? Or for a representative who promised such an increase in spending?

Yeah, thought not.

One could even say that the inmates are running the asylum.

California is effectively a one-party state where Democrats have the governorship and all other statewide elected positions and supermajorities in both chambers of the state legislature. If there isn't money for mental health, it's California Dems to blame, not TSwizzle.

For the record though, I'd be supportive of well funded mental health system. Too bad Gov. Goodhair and his cabal would prefer instead to waste money on giveaways to black Californians.

(Also, weird that the Daily Mail thinks that's the biggest local crime story,
I read the article and I must have missed the part where DM claims it was the biggest local crime story.
Nudity probably had a lot to do with why they chose to write about it to be honest.

Yeah I know! I guess the driver must not have been familiar with the area. Or drunk. Or both.

Were they? I read about that story too, but the article I read had no mugshots or other photos of the carjackers.
But I guess if they are white, you will have no problem condemning their actions. No "how they gonna get their money" excuses for white thieves and robbers I guess.
