The Race For 2024

I Note that in Poland, the right winged, authoritarian PiS party that has ruled Poland for some years just lost their hold on Poland. Several center left parties will join a colitian government to run Poland and undo unpopular PiS policies. There was a large turnout of young voters, and especially young women voters. A massive voter turn out, bigger than turnout when Poland won their freedom from the USSR. A warning to the GOP. it remains to be seen how the new GOP speaker of the House manages to screw things up to cause a massive revolt among young U.S. voters.

NIghtHawkBuzz for president!
Combining the least electable qualities of three of the currently least electable Republicans is going to be a sure fire winner.

(For Dems)

The sane wing -- tiny as it is -- of the GOP needs to get together and run favorite sons in a few swing states. Some Gopsters have a YouTube channel for this.

Romney in Nevada will divert enough Trump-licking votes to ensure a Biden win in that state. Can a similar trick repeat in another state? Can Romney take away enough Arizona votes to get Biden first past the post? I don't know any other sane Republicans, but I think there may be another one in Wisconsin or so. Just grabbing 2 or 3 swing states could be enough to give Biden 2024 victory.

If instead present trends stay in place, American voters will be split roughly equally between sane citizens, and the deluded QAnon-Trump-licking faction. (Hopefully no anti-Trumpers will play a Sanders and back Ralph Nader or whoever-the-fuk.) Too close to call. Trump victory would be too horrid to contemplate. Trump defeat may lead to Civil War.

Are you glad you live in interesting times?

I wonder, if Trump gets knocked off enough state ballots to make it mathematically impossible to win the Electoral College in 2024, what will the Republicans do? Will rabid Trumpsters stay home? Go for DeSantis? Write in Trump anyway?
He will challenge it at the SCOTUS and they will reverse the removal.

You mean, SCOTUS will overturn the Constitution?
they will “interpret” it. The law only means what the lawyers agree it means.

Gerard Magliocca, of Indiana University, said there was scant scholarship on Section Three of the 14th Amendment when he began researching it in late 2020, but said he uncovered evidence in 150-year-old court rulings, congressional testimony and presidential executive orders that it applied to presidents and to those who simply encouraged an insurrection rather than physically participated in one.

Magliocca didn’t mention Trump by name, but the plaintiffs in the case have argued that Colorado must ban him from the ballot because his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, which was intended to halt Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s win and keep Trump in power, falls under the provision. The section originally was designed to prevent former Confederates from returning to their old federal and state jobs and taking over the government.

“It was not intended as punishment,” Magliocca said of the ban. “A number of senators discussed the fact that this was simply adding another qualification to office.”

In the history of dumb moves, this would be close to the top.

We won't vote for the guy that's not doing exactly what we want.

Therefore, we end up with a guy that will really fuck up our lives!

When things are fucked, the difference between bad and worse doesn't seem so great. The muslims who are considering not voting for Biden have been through this shit before. Three bricks thrown into their house instead of five? Big fucking deal. Biden sending unconditional support towards Israel does show some lives are more important than others.

I think the cliché is “cutting off your nose to spite your face”. Religious reactions often take this form.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday showed Biden narrowly ahead of Trump by 1 point — 47 percent to 46 percent, within the margin of error — in a head-to-head matchup. But with Kennedy in a three-way race, Biden is ahead with 39 percent to Trump’s 36 percent and Kennedy’s 22 percent.

Hooo-kayy. So the nutbar caucus' total share jumps from 46% to 58% of the vote when you add RFK?
SMH

No one is electing a caucus.

We shall see about that, right?
Hopefully the entire Trump Party is sufficiently tainted to drive a few people to look down ballot and get rid of some of their local anti abortion anti democracy trumpsuckers.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2024 - 2024 Republican Presidential Nomination
Nikki Haley's poll numbers are growing, while those of Vivek Ramaswamy are declining. RCP's average:

DT 59.3 - RdS 13.4 - NH 8.3 - VR 4.6 - (MP 3.4) - CC 2.3 - TS 1.7 - DB 0.7 - AH 0.5

Nikki Haley’s breakout jolts the 2024 GOP undercard race - POLITICO - "The former South Carolina governor is the reason Ron DeSantis can’t call 2024 a “two-man race” anymore."

The first Republican Presidential primaries are a little over two months away. Iowa: Jan 15, New Hampshire: Jan (?), Nevada: Feb 6, 8, Virgin Islands: Feb 8, South Carolina: Feb 24, Michigan: Feb 27, Idaho: Mar 2, Missouri: Feb 2, District of Columbia: Mar 3, North Dakota: Mar 4, Super Tuesday: Mar 5.

Next Republican Debate: Which 2024 Candidates Have Qualified So Far? - The New York Times

Only four: Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie.

In the second debate, it was the third-debate ones with Tim Scott, Doug Burgum, and Mike Pence.

In the first debate, it was the second-debate ones with Asa Hutchinson.

Will DB and AH join MP? TS? I'm expecting CC to hold out a little bit longer, since he's running on opposition to DT.

People are dumb! Behind the scenes, Biden is putting pressure on Israel to lower civilian deaths, follow international law, find a solution that works for both sides. Today, Biden repeated that Israel has the right to defend itself, but he said it must do so in a way that minimizes civilian casualties. Trump's plan: bomb the shit out of them, evict US Arab citizens who complain. So if these people won't support a person who gives them 90% of what they want rather than 100%; they deserve what they'll get from Trump.

Like we did in Iraq?

When it comes to foreigner policy, the only difference between these men is the window dressing.

That's ridiculous.
Iraq was an utter disaster to be sure. But Obama, Biden, and Clinton forged a peace deal with Iran. Imperfect, but it was a start. Republicans torpedoed it from the get go, and Trump finished it off.
Trump also cut US support for NATO and Ukraine. I'm not sure Russia would be doing what their doing if Trump's policies hadn't paved the way.

Nope. Once again, a Democrat President is cleaning up a mess left by his Republican predecessor and getting blamed for it.

That's actually a great analogy. I continually heard from the Nader bros that there is no difference between Gore and Bush on foreign policy (and other issues). Rubbish. If Gore had been elected, we would not have invaded Iraq. There is no doubt that he would have taken out Al-quada in Afghanistan. I like you as a poster, but I'm just not going to engage in a thread if you don't understand the real foreign policy differences between Biden and Trump.
