What are you talking about? What is "it"? He absolutely did attempt coup, he absolutely did put shills on the Supreme Court and "industry leaders" in every cabinet post. Racial and social relations badly deteriorated during his reign, and remain unrepaired. His brash actions in Israel have erupted into mass violence on catastrophic scale. How much worse do things have to get before you concede that "it" has happened? Nazi youth marching on the Capitol lawn?

This is a "man" who, less than two years back, said that when his grievances are at issue, the Constitution should be set aside: "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude <i.e., his childish lie that his 'landslide' 2020 victory was stolen from him> allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution." (Trump on Truth Social, 12/22)
Yeah, this is the guy who should waddle up to the podium in January and swear to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution." This is the guy whom SCOTUS figured wasn't protected enough by the Constitution; he had to be made above the rest of us and enjoy a lawless freedom to act out his crazy impulses.
Putin doesn't need to put more schemes in motion to sully our reputation in the free world. We've done it to ourselves.
 
It’s technically too close to call, but so far she seems to be underperforming Biden. As I feared, she’s not doing as well with Latinos as Biden did. That may be all it takes, CNN just called Iowa for Trump. Maybe not a surprise but a few days ago some pollster said she was up by 3% there. Such bullshit. We probably won’t know for sure until early tomorrow.

Refused to commit to any real and substantive position on anything for fear that it would lose them completely mythical Republican swing voters, and look where it got us. They failed to make the case for a liberal, tolerant society. Never tried to lead by example, never tried to.. well, lead at all. Harris offered positions (with a thousand asterisks), but no leadership. A billion dollars of ads saying nothing of substance. And will there be any self-reflection on the blue side of the aisle? Any momentary thoughts about how their own hubris and corruption helped lead to this outcome? No, of course not. The narrative tomorrow and for the next many weeks will all be about those fucking Palestinians, those fucking Latinos, those fucking queers, all those fucking minorities we hate, who didn't vote the way we told them to. This is all their fault.

Our fault, for wanting the most basic of human rights. Domicile, citizenship, marriage, kids. For wanting the American dream. Just, fuck you people. You deserve the cesspool this country is about to descend into, because you lacked the basic grace and decency to care about sharing it with your neighbors.

It's all whistling Dixie now. I was looking forward to discussing the errors that the Democratic party and our universities have brought on us, but the purpose of that would be to course correct in the future. There is no purpose in it now. The returns are bad and Harris can't overcome them.

Now all I can wonder about is what the future is going to look like.

I do not take any glee in it, but I am in agreement with you.

"Woke" helped bring this on us. Using terms like "cisgender" and "white privilege" alienated a massive demographic.

Universities are where this shit came from. I know this because I was there. It's not just about conservatives hating higher education. It was about the utter nonsense and contempt for hetero white males. It was a backfired attempt at revenge based on delusional notions that white people don't struggle. Even if it was acknowledged that everyone struggles, white folks have no right to complain because others have it worse. It's so simple minded and reductive.

So why did black and latino men for Trump too? It's because they were told that being a hetero male was a shameful shortcoming; that they were less-than simply for being who they are.

I'm a 55 year old white guy, so I'll probably be okay. It's cold comfort, but at least I know I didn't contribute to the problem.

I didn't contribute to the left wing's problems. For a long time I've been more than willing to point these problems out, but I've usually been shouted down. I would've like to have used my education to be able to positively contribute to my ideals. The ideal organization is the ACLU, despite their low pay, but I'm the wrong gender, horribly white, and I like women.

Prior to passing the bar, I wrote appellate briefs as a law clerk in complex civil matters. I could've done a good job just doing that for the ACLU or any similar organization, but again, there's not a chance in the world they'd have me.

Equal opportunity is important. Equality is vital to a healthy society, but universities and even community colleges are more concerned about diversity than quality. What I'd really like to do is teach basic Constitutional law at the college level. I'd be good at it. But again, there's no place for me there.

Whatever. It's the young people's problem now. I'll keep posting as a way of coping and venting, but it won't matter.

I suppose that in the future you can guide us through the inevitable oligarchy the U.S. can become.

If it is any consolation, the trend now is toward merit, and diversity in thought...or at least hobbies. It had to change, right?
Eventually, reality rears it's head and the reputation of top tier educational institutions are in peril. The woke wokest kids just don't perform as well. Professors have been complaining about dumbing down their curriculum and workload when SAT scores became optional.
Now? SAT is back for this year! At most of them. The experiment of it being optional failed.
My kiddo won't be attending any school that doesn't use test scores. Virtue signaling for meaningless social justice points isn't a class. It doesn't create a business or a usable skill.

DEI and CRT are illogical aims, and they will be abolished. They make no sense or have any systemic positive goals, beyond chance. Negative stigma is a real thing though going back to affirmative action policies here. Just creared a ,mismatch of placement vs ability.
Even most California's are now seeing the truth of it all, like the climate scam, and the homeless scam, and the war scam. It is all a big grift that solves nothing for the citizens of this country.

My daughter is mixed race, but we 'decline to state'. It is none of their business what her DNA says or what she appears to be (except that she is an XX female playing a sport!). When her dad puts Hispanic, I change it to none....Or "human" if it is written.

We need to reject the nonsense buckets they put us in.

Okay what?!

There is a gender gap. There has been a gender gap for a while. I always skip right to the exit polls in General Elections and do the math on male and female voters to tell who won the state. Women almost always vote more Democrat than men. This is caused by two things.

1) Minority women vote en masse for Democrats. Black women it is something like 9 in 10.
2) White women don't vote in majority for Republicans as much as white men.
