Citizens have the right to demand a speedy trial, particularly in this case since we have an interest in the defendant’s character (or lack thereof). The STA is for the public’s interest, not the defendant’s.

That's the last thing Trump's team wants. He wants to delay any verdict until he's elected president (for life).

Yes, the statute allows for the pausing of the "clock" for things like pretrial motions. My point still stands that more money can provide more lawyers who can file more pretrial motions. And if they're unethical they can file pretrial motions that might be frivolous, thus wasting the courts time even more.

Trump seems to think that if someone says something bad about him, it is defamation.

Judge in Georgia Probe tells Trump Lawyers to Pound Salt

Fulton County Superior Judge Robert McBurney, who has provided oversight for Willis' probe for more than a year, stated in a lengthy ruling that Trump and his legal team can't do anything to quash the probe since he has not been charged.

"[W]hile being the subject (or even target) of a highly publicized criminal investigation is likely an unwelcome and unpleasant experience, no court ever has held that that status alone provides a basis for the courts to interfere with or halt the investigation," McBurney wrote.

A lot of well regarded teams that were expected to do very well have been eliminated in the early rounds of this world cup.

The USA isn't particularly special in this regard. England were within a hair of being eliminated by Nigeria in similar fashion to the US defeat by Sweden. Co-hosts New Zealand didn't get out of the group stage. And the highly fancied Canadians were destroyed 4-0 by Australia, who were themselves at that point on the brink of emulating their trans-Tasman cousins.

Personally, I blame Joe Biden for all of this. Because clearly there could be no other reason for any kind of unexpected outcome in a football match.
