The Race For 2024

As we speak, some friends of mine are getting savagely beaten by park police in the Capitol, and their horses abused. Why?
I have not seen anything about it on the news. Do you have a link? And why have they taken horses into the Capitol?
Because they showed up to observe Indigenous People's Day.
You mean Columbus Day? You know, the day celebrated by going to the grocery store and getting lost looking for the spice aisle because the store is bigger than we expected ...
A holiday our government supposedly acknowledges now.
The government recognizes many holidays. Doesn't mean I can ride into the Capitol on some reindeer on Christmas or riding an ass and a colt, the foal of an ass, the Sunday before Easter and not face consequences.
Besides, Amerindians culturally appropriated horse riding from the Spaniards. There were no horses in the Americas after the Ice Age and before the Europeans brought them again.
Of course, they are allegedly blocking a thoroughfare, which as you know is a capital crime in the Capitol, so everyone is fine with the violence.
Yes, people should not block thoroughfares, be they right or left; white, black or Siberian-Americans. And if they refuse to disperse when so ordered, they can be removed forcefully.
You block a street, you get beaten, right? Even if you're a fucking horse.

But again, was any of this reported anywhere?
The officers who are beating these brave women and their animals do not, in theory, work for Trump. They work for Debra Haaland, herself Native, and she works for us the people under the supervision of Joe Biden. Yet here we all are.
Are you saying that because Debra Haaland is "Native", she should look the other way when people who belong to her ethnic group break the law? Besides, are you even sure that the Capitol Police is under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior?
Yes, we all need to vote, and for the Democrats. But the Democrats have no power to save us from ourselves if we sit on our laurels while Trump and his people seize estate after estate within our government through no democratic process of any kind. The insurrectionists are happy to take an electoral victory when that is a possibility, but they do not give up just because they've lost an election.
What "estates" did Trump seize? Are you suggesting he somehow controls the Capitol Police through unknown means?

I do not, and it's unlikely that this will be widely reported on, being fairly business-as-normal for DC. No commonly recognized rights were violated, what the police did was legal and unremarkable. You can read about the campaign itself here, if you like.

Besides, are you even sure that the Capitol Police is under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior?
No, but these guys are: https://www.nps.gov/subjects/uspp/index.htm

What "estates" did Trump seize?
Figure of speech. The domains and prerogatives of government.

Prison labor wages in the United States are typically low, and vary significantly by state:
Right. I don't object to prisoners being paid more. Not as much as they would earn outside because of expensive room and board, but certainly much more than now.

That said, I think calling prison labor "slavery" as Politesse is doing, or saying that prisoners should not be expected to contribute to the kitchens, libraries and other facilities they are using goes way too far.
But it is slavery: they have no choice, cannot leave or quit. They get paid a pittance as did some enslaved people prior to 1865, along with room and board.

Baier: Do you still advocate for tax payer funded gender surgery for prisoners
Harris: TRUMP!!! TRUMP!! TRUMP!!!

:hysterical:
So you missed the part where the same thing was going on under Trump?

What is it you say people do who complain about something but do nothing about?

Would that be virtue signalling?

Data analysis suggests that a single entity may be behind a massive $26 million bet on Donald Trump winning the election on the Polymarket platform.

What Happened: According to a detailed thread by X user Fozzy Diablo on Wednesday, four accounts – Fredi9999, PrincessCaro, Michie, and Theo4 – have been observed making substantial bets on Trump-related outcomes.

The betting patterns of these accounts show striking similarities, with one account typically taking over when another stops, suggesting coordinated activity.

Fozzy Diablo notes, “There is very little overlap within each account, suggesting they are all the same entity.”

The deposit patterns for these accounts are remarkably similar, further supporting this theory. Fozzy Diablo reports, “All flow comes from Kraken in the form of $500,000 or $1 million deposits.”

The motivation behind this substantial investment remains unclear. Fozzy Diablo speculates, “Is the end goal a simple double up? Or is $26 million a cheap way to sway the public opinion in favor of Trump weeks before the election?”

Predictit swung radically fast toward Trump for little apparent reason last week or so.
I was wondering.

Looks like we (Aust). will have to close the curtains and raise the drawbridge on 6th Nov. No one gets in or out.

Should I go ahead with the scheduled eye op?

Russian prisons are either from tzar time or a model that they made after WWII. (I've been in three Russian prisons.)
As a guest or resident?
Buyer of lumber. Every male prison has a saw-mill. The government does not give any money for food, so the prisoners work with timber, lumber and metal.
In the last one, I worked as a teacher, but I was not an inmate. I bought knotless products for the Finnish and Swedish furniture and parquet industries. Before anyone asks: I paid them salaries as saöaries were paid outside the prison. From the salaries were subtracted what they wanted me to bring them: cigarettes, salt, pepper and such. There were two brothers that did not smoke, so they got books. I was quite well known in the region among "the guys" who were (still) free - I did not have to pay any "fire insurance" or bribes. De facto, the prison, like many Russian prisons, was partly run by criminals. Long story. ;)

I think you have never been in a prison?
I teach a basic skills course in one, from time to time, and I can tell you with some confidence that US prisons and Finnish prisons are not the same. It is true that not all jails are maximum security prisons, but guard brutality, isolation units, denial of medical care, substance abuse, sexual abuse, and organized crime are common experiences within the entire penitentiary system, save for some rural overnight pokeys and a handful of boutique private prisons for the wealthy. Even those are not as nice as tv would have you believe.
It was described in a book. An inmate who had committed insider crimes had written it. When he was free, he began to work for the authorities.

Right now the Dems appear to be holding the senate I can't fathom Harris losing if that happens.

Baier: You're administration relaxed sanctions on Iran allowing billions of dollars to go to Iran's proxy armies
Harris: TRUMP! TRUMP!! TRUMP!!

Baier: What are you turning the page from
Harris: TRUMP!!! TRUMP!!! TRUMP!!

What a train wreck dopey Harris is. She offers nothing.

Not sure what you are talking about. I just watched the interview. I thought that she kicked Baier's ass!

TSwizzle is confused why Harris would be talking about the other main candidate in the race.
I just watched the interview. I thought that she kicked Baier's ass!
It was a very hostile interview, but from all intents and purposes she met it head on. Didn't whine about things not being fair, didn't make things up wholesale. Did she explain everything in clear detail proposal and policy wise? No, but she spoke like a candidate usually does.

She didn’t have a chance to explain because of the constant interruptions.

Sure, Jan.

No confusion on my part. Harris failed to answer any questions and chose to talk about Trump.

Harris is clueless.

Interview said:
Bret Baier (00:03):
Voters tell pollsters all over the country and here in Pennsylvania that immigration is one of the key issues that they’re looking at this election and specifically the influx of illegal immigrants from more than 150 countries. How many illegal immigrants would you estimate your administration has released into the country over the last three-and-half years?

Kamala Harris (00:25):
Well, I’m glad you raised the issue of immigration because I agree with you. It is a topic of discussion that people want to rightly have and you know what I’m going to talk about right now, which is-

Bret Baier (00:36):
Yeah, but just a number. Do you think’s 1 million? 3 million?

Kamala Harris (00:39):
Bret, let’s just get to the point. Okay. The point is that we have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired.

Bret Baier (00:47):
Your Homeland Security secretary said that 85% of apprehensions-

Kamala Harris (00:51):
But I’m not finished, I’m not finished. We have an immigration system-

Bret Baier (00:53):
It’s a rough estimate of 6 million-

Kamala Harris (00:55):
… that needs to be…

Bret Baier (00:55):
… people have been released into the country. And let me just finish. I’ll get to the question, I promise you.

Kamala Harris (00:59):
I was beginning to answer.
Harris apparently wasn't allowed to answer. Baier mistook the event for a trial. In the first minute, he interrupted her four times.

Interview said:
Bret Baier (01:01):
And when you came into office, your administration immediately reversed a number of Trump border policies, most significantly, the policy that required illegal immigrants to be detained through deportation either in the US or in Mexico. And you switched that policy, they were released from custody awaiting trial. So instead, included in those were a large number of single men, adult men who went on to commit heinous crimes. So looking back, do you regret the decision to terminate remain in Mexico at the beginning of your administration?

Kamala Harris (01:36):
At the beginning of our administration, within practically hours of taking the oath, the first bill that we offered Congress, before we worked on infrastructure, before the Inflation Reduction Act, before the Chips and Science Act, before the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first bill, practically within hours of taking the oath, was a bill to fix our immigration system.

Bret Baier (02:06):
Yes, ma’am. It was called the US Citizenship Act of 2021.

Kamala Harris (02:11):
Exactly.

Bret Baier (02:11):
It was essentially a pathway to citizenship for the-

Kamala Harris (02:14):
May I please finish?

Bret Baier (02:14):
Yes, ma’am.

Kamala Harris (02:14):
May I finish responding please?

Bret Baier (02:17):
But here, but this-

Kamala Harris (02:17):
But you have to let me finish, please.

Bret Baier (02:19):
You had the White House and the House and the Senate and they didn’t bring up that bill.

Kamala Harris (02:22):
I’m in the middle responding to the point you’re raising.

Bret Baier (02:24):
Okay.

Kamala Harris (02:24):
And I’d like to finish.

Bret Baier (02:26):
Yes, ma’am.

Kamala Harris (02:28):
We recognized from day one that to the point of this being your first question, it is a priority for us as a nation and for the American people. And our focus has been on fixing a problem. And from day one then, we have done a number of things, including to address our asylum system and put more resources, getting more judges, what we needed to do to tighten up penalties and increase penalties for illegal crossings, what we needed to do to deal with points of entry between border entry points. That’s the work we did.

(03:07)
And we worked on supporting what was a bipartisan effort, including some of the most conservative members of the United States Congress, to actually strengthen the border. That border bill would have put 1,500 more border agents at the border, which is why I believe the border patrol agents supported the bill. It would’ve allowed us to stem the flow of fentanyl coming into the United States, which is a scourge affecting people of every background, every geographic location in our country, killing people. It would’ve allowed us to put more resources into prosecuting transnational criminal organizations, which I have done-
Baier has spoken more words in the two and a half minutes than Harris. Finally Harris is allowed to speak. The word Trump in her first response is no where to be found.

And let's check out this stat.

Looking at the transcript, Harris brings up Trump a handful of times when not in reference to Baier mentioning Trump, which he does 11 times himself.

Rearranged these words to form a well known saying;

At clutching straws

Harris is incapable of answering a question and is often times incoherent. She has been consistent in this regard.

even granting this as true, since the election is a binary choice between her and Trump, she is definitely the more coherent and capable of answering a question of the two.

Did you see Trump’s answer on what legislation he would prioritize to bring down health care costs?

Did you see Trump’s answer on if he regrets anything about Jan 6? Or his answer to the Hispanic man asking how he’ll win back his vote.

That man still doesn’t understand how tariffs work and that’s his primary economic policy! He also doesn’t understand simple supply and demand economics as shown by his answer to the Hispanic farmer about what will happen to the cost of food if he deports all the undocumented workers who pick our fruits and vegetables.
