Who left office almost half a century ago. How long are California Dems going to use that as an excuse for their inaction?
Instead of wasting money on the racist reparations committee, Gov. Goodhair could have been fixing the state's mental health system.

Well, I certainly share that criticism, but how the hell is electing a Republican supposed to help? The two parties are more or less in agreement on this point. Do nothing, then point fingers. Completely useless.

California is effectively a one-party state run by Democrats. San Francisco is a one party city.

Yes, since the woman dropped her gun the cops were able to take her into custody, which is a good outcome.
On the other hand, had they been forced to shoot her, it would not have been their fault.

I don't know. Larry Elder was certainly not a great candidate.
Having effective one-party rule doesn't just lead to rot in the governing party, which is very evident in California governor's mansion and the state legislature. It also leads to atrophy of the opposition party.
 
I mean, you're not wrong about the general atrophy of both parties, but where does that leave us? You want "something to be done", but despise progressives, the only wing of the government willing to so much as advocate for action on social issues. You offer, as always, no real solutions to any of the issues you want us to scoff at or clutch our pearls about every time you repost the layest outrage from the British tabloids. What's the point of the endless outrage machine if it accomplishes nothing?

It’s hard to believe that giving Republicans more political power in California would lead to better solutions of the mental health crisis.

But I admit to not being fully versed on the policy ideas that Republicans have put forward on mental health. Have any citations for me to check?

Certainly the Democrats aren’t doing a good job of it here but it’s hard to see how having a powerful opposition would make them more effective in this issue. What are your thoughts here?

Same as everything else--make the suffer enough they reform.
 
Visited a friend in North Beach this weekend, and lemme tell you that place has just become unsurvivable since Governor Newsom took office. His damned necromancer spies are everywhere, raising demons from these weird blue glass skylights embedded in the sidewalks, that then chase down passing Christians and force them to give false testimony in union disputes. Once proud churches and strip malls have been converted into roller derbies, with dangerously sloping floors. Babies give birth to additional babies right there in the street, then eat them and steal their Calfresh credits to buy diapers and drugs with, a common local scam. The frequent earthquakes the City is known for now cause dangerous "tsunami" waves amid the plastic needles that have accumulated in all the little valleys, as you can see almost shoulder deep in places. Worst of all, I hear Nordstroms might be leaving by the end of the month. Nordstroms! Goddammit man, they had some of the nicest toilets in town, even if you did have to bribe a guard to use them. Where the hell am I going to piss now?

Whatever you do, Republicans, don't come to Newsom's San Francisco. Your hearts are in the right place, but it's just not worth the risk. Stay home. Stay safe.

It's the name that the doom hawkers love, isn't it? Tenderloin just sounds so deliciously scary. But I'll have you know, Tenderloin or no, your mother was fucking terrified of North Beach. The Tenderloin had nothing on City Lights or the Condor Club in the paranoid conservative delusions of the sixties. Read my lips. This country was never so mortally endangered as when beat poets were allowed to freely roam her streets.
